1st Logo 1953-1955
A TV tube-like shape is seen outlined in dark gray and filled in black over a light gray background. There are 8 stars twinkling inside under the phrase "A Screen Gems, Inc. Production".
Shows that had this logo include Father Knows Best (Season 1) and The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin (Season 1).
5th Logo 1965-1974
This logo was the most Well-Known Screen Gems production logo. It is known by some as the "Filmstrip S" or the S From Hell.
It starts with a tiny Parallelogram coming forward from the top of the screen and a huge one backing away from the bottom, As they do so, they grow in length and wrap around a space where a dot appears, forming a stylized "S". Under that the words "SCREEN GEMS" come forward.
The strips do form an S, but looking at the sprocket and the lower strip, a lowercase "g" is seen, representing the "Gems" half. The upper half of the S resembles a spiral "6".
From 1965-1970, the music consists of 6 notes followed by 2 oversynthesized tones. In 1970, it was shortened to 3 notes and the 2 tones. This version was also used for the short-lived first Columbia Pictures Television logo. The colors of the ident changed along with it.
In 1965, there was a black and white version with a light gray screen and black S and words and a colour version with a yellow screen, red S, and black words. In 1971, a black (or blue) on gold version was added. In 1973, there was a gray on gold version.
Numerous people have very unfond memories of this logo, mostly due to the creepy theme music and rough animation.
