Narrator: The engines on the narrow-gauge railway keep very busy. There are always lots of jobs to do. One morning, Mr. Percival came to the narrow-gauge sheds.

Mr. Percival: A new diesel has arrived on this railway. His name is Zazu. Sir Handel, you must make him feel welcome. A happy diesel is a useful diesel.

Sir Handel: Yes sir.

Narrator: Later Sir Handel had to stop by the signalbox. The signalman called out to him.

Signalman: The viaduct ahead has cracks in it. Sir Handel, you are to collect a load of bricks so it can be repaired.

Sir Handel: Right away sir.

Narrator: At the Wharf, Zazu the new diesel was with a line of trucks. Zazu was blue with yellow bufferbeams, and yellow and black stripes on his back end. He had been telling the trucks not to push him, but of course they wouldn't lesson.

Slate Truck 1: Nearly there.

Slate Truck 2: Nearly there.

Zazu: Stop that at once, or I'll... (crashes into buffers) OUCH! What was that?

Slate Trucks: Watch where you're going clumsy wheels.

Narrator: Zazu looked sad.

Slate Truck 3: It's not our fault you're so silly.

Narrator: And the trucks laughed even harder.

Zazu: (sighs) I guess I'm just clumsy today.

Narrator: Then Sir Handel arrived at the Transfer Yards. He could see the trucks laughing with Zazu.

Sir Handel: That must be the diesel. He must be friends with the trucks.

Narrator: Sir Handel met Duncan at the Transter Yards.

Duncan: Have you seen the new diesel yet?

Sir Handel: Yes I have. But we'd better be careful. I saw him at the Wharf with the trucks, they were laughing together.

Narrator: Duncan was shocked. An engine friend with trucks? As Sir Handel left, Mighty Mac pulled in,

Duncan: Have you heard about the new diesel?

Narrator: And Duncan started to tell Mighty Mac all about Zazu. Later Mighty Mac were talking to Luke at the Blue Mountain Quarry.

Mighty: That nee diesel Zazu is best friends with the trucks.

Mac: They don't want to be with us engines at all.

Luke: How do you know?

Mighty: Duncan told us.

Mac: And Sir Handel told him.

Narrator: Later Luke met Freddie at the water tower.

Luke: Don't go near Zazu, the new diesel. The trucks have told him to biff into other engines. Mighty Mac told me, Duncan told Mighty Mac, and all three of them heard it from Sir Handel.

Narrator: When Sir Handel arrived at Lakeside Station, Mr. Percival was there.

Mr. Percival: Sir Handel, you must warn all engines not to cross the viaduct until it is repaired.

Narrator: Sir Handel felt proud, It was a very useful job. Just then he heard a horn blast. Someone was coming. Sir Handel heard to warn them. It was Zazu, pulling a goods train. Sir Handel was shocked to see Zazu.

Zazu: Hello. So you're Sir Handel, are you?

Sir Handel: I'm not talking to you.

Narrator: Zazu didn't know what he heard done.

Zazu: What did you say that for?

Sir Handel: Why should you want to know, anyway?

Narrator: So Zazu purred sadly away. Then Freddie puffed in.

Sir Handel: So have you heard that Zazu was going to biff into all the engines.

Freddie: Yes. Luke told me, Mighty Mac told Luke, Duncan told Mighty Mac and you told Duncan.

Sir Handel: But I only said to Duncan that I'd seen Zazu with the trucks.

Narrator: Then Duke arrived.

Duke: Have you heard about Zazu the new diesel. Rusty saw the trucks being horrible to him at the Wharf.

Narrator: Freddie was shocked. Sir Handel couldn't believe it. Zazu wasn't friends with the trucks after all.

Freddie: Where was Zazu going?

Sir Handel: Of course, I've made a terrible mistake. Zazu's heading for the damaged viaduct. I must stop him.

Narrator: Zazu was speeding through the countryside as fast as he could. Suddenly he saw warning flags on the side of the tracks. He slammed on his brakes. But it was too late. Zazu's driver jumped clear, just as his front wheels went over the edge of the tracks. Zazu was in terrible trouble, he was on the damaged section of the viaduct. Sir Handel knew it was all his fault. Suddenly he had an idea.

Sir Handel: Don't worry Zazu. I'll save you.

Narrator: Sir Handel gently bumped Zazu's brakevan, and was coupled up. Sir Handel was very scared, but he knew he had to be responsible. So slowly and carefully he started to pull Zazu back from the edge. The bridge made a creaking noise. Sir Handel knew he must hurry. He pulled as hard as he could, and with one big puff, he pulled Zazu's wheels off the viaduct. Sir Handel had done it. He had saved Zazu and his goods train.

Zazu: Thank you Sir Handel.

Sir Handel: I should had warned you. But I was too busy believing silly stories. I thought you didn't like other engines, but now I know I was wrong.

Narrator: Sir Handel gave Zazu a long friendly toot. Zazu was very happy; at last he knew he had a good friend in Sir Handel. Then the two of them worked together on the reconstruction of the viaduct.

Zazu: So Sir Handel, what gave you the idea I only liked trucks and not engines?

Sir Handel: Ah that's a long story. Besides, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Zazu: Quite right Sir Handel.

(both engines can't stop laughing about it)
