Mountain Engine, retitled Skarloey, Rheneas & The Mountain Engine is the second episode of the fan-fiction fifth season of Thomas the Tank Engine. It first premiered in September 5, 1995.

Plot

Rheneas tells a grumpy Sir Handel that he should be grateful that he doesn't work on a mountain railway. Sir Handel doesn't believe such a thing exists, and an argument ensues until Donald arrives with Culdee, a queer-looking mountain engine. When Culdee wakes up, he tells the little engines about his line, and an adventure he had on the first day.

  • At the start of this episode, in both George Carlin and Michael Angelis versions, they both say "The coaches Agnes, Ruth, Lucy, Jemima and Beatrice had made him slip to a stand still twice". In the Ringo Starr version, Ringo Starr says "The coaches had made him slip to a stand still twice".
  • In Ringo Starr's narration, when Culdee is forced to go down the steepest part of the line, music is heard. This is absent in Michael Angelis and George Carlin's narrations. At the end of Ringo Starr's narration, the Season 1-3 outro theme is heard.

  • George Carlin: Sir Handel had a bad day. The coaches Agnes, Ruth, Lucy, Jemima and Beatrice had made him slip to a stand still twice. He was furious.
  • Sir Handel: Those cattle cars should be scrapped.
  • George Carlin: He fummed. Skarloey was shocked.
  • Skarloey: I wontt have it.
  • George Carlin: He protested.
  • Skarloey: These old desire need kindness, not bad names.
  • Rheneas: Exactally so!
  • George Carlin: Agreed Rheneas. He winked at Skarloey.
  • Rheneas: You would be thankful Sir Handel! If you were in a mountain railway.
  • Sir Handel: A mountain railway? What's that?
  • Skarloey: A railway which climbs mountains, of course.
  • Sir Handel: But it can't!
  • George Carlin: Said Sir Handel.
  • Sir Handel: If engines' wheels would slip!
  • Rheneas: Bit it can.
  • George Carlin: Said Rheneas firmly.
  • Rheneas: We've heard of one.
  • Sir Handel: It can't!
  • Rheneas: It can.
  • George Carlin: The noisy arguement started just as Donald shunted a flatcar to a siding nearby. On the car is a queer looking engine. He had six small wheels. And a stone-flat chimney. His boiler was tilted backwards. His cylinders were back to front.
  • Donald: Shhh.
  • George Carlin: Said Donald.
  • Donald: Do not wake the wee engine, his tired years.

Ringo Starr narration

  • Ringo Starr: Sir Handel had a bad day. The coaches had made him slip to a stand still twice. He was furious.
  • Sir Handel: Those cattle cars should be scrapped.
  • Ringo Starr: He fummed. Skarloey was shocked.
