Transcript

Narrator: "On Acme Acres, all the toons are proud to work for King Acorn's territory. They chuff and puff and heave and haul their hardest to make sure King Acorn is proud.

One morning, King Acorn's car had broken down. Sonic was to take the car to the station. The mechanic was waiting there to fix it. Sonic was proud to help King Acorn.

Just then, Skippy chuffed cheerily in."

Sonic: "Good morning, Skippy."

Skippy: "Hello, Sonic. Do you wanna hear a good joke? Where do crocodiles keep their money?"

Sonic: "Hmm... I don't know."

Skippy: "In a river bank!" (Laughs)

Narrator: "But Sonic didn't laugh. He didn't even smile."

Sonic: "I have an important job to do. I have to take King Acorn's car to the station to be fixed. He needs it this evening. I must hurry."

Narrator: "Skippy sighed."

Skippy: "You know, Sonic? Maybe you're too old to be fun."

Narrator: "Sonic stopped. He didn't like being told that he was too old to be fun. He thought he was as much fun as any young toon."

Sonic: "I can be a lot of fun, Skippy!"

Skippy: "Then show me!"

Narrator: "Sonic huffed and puffed. He knew he should chuff carefully to the station with King Acorn's car, but he also knew Skippy wouldn't think that was fun. So Sonic decided not to take the careful path."

Sonic: "Follow me, Skippy. I'll take you on the bumpiest and jumpiest, the twistiest and turniest tracks to the station. Then you'll see just how much fun I can be!"

Skippy: "I'm ready, Sonic!"

Narrator: "So Sonic puffed away to the station, with Skippy chuffing close behind.

First, Sonic and Skippy clickety-clacked across the bumpiest bridge. They jiggled and joggled, and they bumped and they jumped."

Skippy: "Whee-hee! This is fun!"

Narrator: "Next, Sonic and Skippy rattled around some of the bendiest bends."

Skippy: "Fizzling fir trees! I didn't think you'd be this much fun, Sonic!"

Narrator: "This made Sonic happy.

Sonic and Skippy rocked and they rolled, and they told jokes."

Sonic: "Okay, Skippy. I have a joke for you. How do you know when an engine is eating?"

Skippy: "Uh, I don't know, Sonic. Tell me!"

Sonic: "You hear it choo-ing!"

(Sonic and Skippy laugh)

Skippy: "That's a good one, Sonic! You really are the most fun of all!"

Narrator: "At last, Sonic and Skippy puffed into the station. Buster was there, but there was no mechanic on the platform."

Buster: "Hello, Sonic! The mechanic was waiting for you. Now he's left with Little Beeper!"

Narrator: "Suddenly, Sonic was worried."

Sonic: "Oh, my! I spent too much time on the bumpy and bendy paths, having fun."

Narrator: "Skippy sighed."

Skippy: "Is that as much fun as you can be, Sonic?"

Narrator: "Sonic didn't like that."

Sonic: "No! I can be much more fun than that! We'll chase Little Beeper to catch up with the mechanic!"

Skippy: "Good Idea! I'm ready, Sonic!

Narrator: "So Sonic and Skippy moved their feet and chuffed off for the chase.

Sonic and Skippy raced and chased after Little Beeper. They thundered through junctions, they flew over bridges, and they clattered through tunnels, but Sonic and Skippy couldn't catch up with Little Beeper."

Skippy: "Twist my tail! That was fun!"

Narrator: "Now, Sonic was worried. He had not done his job. King Acorn would be cross."

Sonic: "I think we should stop at the next junction. Then we can ask a signalman to send a message to the mechanic."

Skippy: "I was right! You are too old to be fun!"

Narrator: "Sonic didn't like that. Then, an Idea flew into his head."

Sonic: "We'll take King Acorn's car to the Acme Workshop to be fixed. It's always fun there!"

Narrator: "Skippy was surprised."

Skippy: "Bubbling bellies, Sonic! That will be the most fun of all! I'm ready, Sonic!"

Narrator: "So Skippy and Sonic puffed off to the Acme Workshop.

Skippy and Sonic steamed in."

Sonic: "Hello, Porky. Where's Daffy?"

Porky: "Hello, Sonic. Daffy has gone to pick up a part. Can I help?"

Sonic: "I'd like you to fix King Acorn's car."

Narrator: "Porky was surprised."

Porky: "Sling my hooves! We don't fix cars."

(Skippy and Sonic stare in shock)

Sonic: "I'm sure you can. We will be back later to pick up the car."

Skippy: "Sonic! You're not too old to have fun. You are the most fun of all!"

Narrator: "That made Sonic very happy.

Later, Skippy and Sonic returned. Porky was very excited."

Porky: "Here you are, Sonic."

Narrator: "Porky trundled to one side. He giggled giddily."

(Porky giggles)

Narrator: "There was King Acorn's car, with a funnel on its roof."

Porky: "It's a fun funnel!"

Narrator: "Sonic gasped. Just then, King Acorn arrived. He didn't think the funnel was fun at all."

King Acorn: "Sonic! What have you done to my car?"

Narrator: "Sonic felt terrible."

Sonic: "I'm sorry, Sir. I was trying to be really useful, and really fun. But it has all gone wrong. This is a disaster. I wish I had just been really useful."

King Acorn: "So do I, Sonic."

Sonic: "Please, Sir. I can take you and Queen Acorn this evening. Then, tomorrow morning, your car will be fixed."

King Acorn: "Hmm. Very well, Sonic."

Narrator: "Sonic puffed into Acme Looniversity with King and Queen Acorn. Skippy was there."

Skippy: "Hello, Sonic. I'm ready for more fun!"

Sonic: "Not now, Skippy. It's not the time for fun. It's time to be really useful. I have to hurry to the Acme Workshop."

Narrator: "Sonic puffed into the Acme Workshop. Skippy chuffed close behind."

Skippy: "Would you like to hear another joke, Sonic?"

Sonic: "No. Thank you, Skippy. This isn't the time for jokes. I have to collect King Acorn's car. Porky, please, take the funnel off King Acorn's car. It was fun, but it wasn't really useful."

Porky: "Right, boss, uh, Sonic. Whatever you say."

Sonic: "Thank you, Porky."

Narrator: "Later, Sonic left the Acme Workshop with King Acorn's car. It was as good as new, and funnel-free.

All along the path, as Sonic clackety-clacked, people cheered and clapped."

Sonic: "This is fun!"

Narrator: "And Skippy had to agree!"
