Transcript[]

Narrator: "It was winter in TV Land. The snow covered fields and paths. All the TV characters were hard at work, except Bart."

RS Mr. Conductor: "Come on, Bart. This isn't time to have a rest."

Bart: "I'm stuck."

Narrator: "Moaned Bart."

Bart: "And my head's freezing up. Driver's sent for help."

RS Mr. Conductor: "Pah!"

Narrator: "Huffed RS Mr. Conductor, and went on his way.

Later, RS Mr. Conductor had to help clear snow by a tunnel. But it was too deep, and he got stuck. RS Mr. Conductor was very cross."

RS Mr. Conductor: "Snow is nothing but trouble!"

Narrator: "He moaned. Owl was close by."

Owl: "Driver says that this winter is just as bad as the worse winter of all."

RS Mr. Conductor: "How worse?"

Narrator: "Asked RS Mr. Conductor."

Owl: "I'll tell you."

Narrator: "Replied Owl, and the little owl did."

Owl: "Franklin was working the path to the slate mine in the mountains.

When the snow came, it was difficult to work. They used the snow as a double buffer zone to help stop changelings skidding through to the ravine.

One day, Franklin set off to the mine with some empty changelings.

Meanwhile, there was trouble at the mine. The winch that hauls the changelings up and down wasn't working properly.

Franklin had reached the ravine. High above him were the mine yards."

Franklin's Driver: "That snow looks dangerous."

Owl: "Said his driver."

Franklin's Driver: "The sound of your body and the changelings could cause an avalanche. I'll set up an emergency cap and see what happens."

Owl: "Franklin watched as the driver prepared it.

Then they ran over the cap." (Boom!) "The bang echoed around the gorge. Nothing happened."

Franklin's Driver: "Good."

Owl: "Said his driver."

Franklin's Driver: "All's well. We'll have a cup of cocoa, and then make our way."

Owl: "But high above them, all was not well. A long line of full changelings was about be winched down the slope. They had just started their journey when some empty changelings fell down. The winch groaned."

Changelings: "Break it! Snap it!"

Owl: "Shouted the changelings. And they did."

Changelings: "On, on, on! Faster, faster!"

Owl: "They giggled."

Workman: "The snowbank and buffers will stop them."

Owl: "Said a workman. But he was wrong. The changelings plunged into the ravine.

Franklin and his driver heard the noise and looked up."

Franklin and his Driver: "Avalanche!"

Owl: "They cried."

(Avalanche falls on Franklin)

Owl: "When the snow ploomed clear, there was no sign of Franklin. He was buried deep inside the high drift blocking the ravine.

And then came the funny part."

RS Mr. Conductor: "What's the funny part about an avalanche?"

Narrator: "Asked RS Mr. Conductor."

Owl: "Well...

No one knew that the heat from Franklin's body had helped to make an igloo."

Workman #1: "It's a snowball."

Workman #2: "It's a snow house."

Workman #3: "It's a turtle."

Owl: "They cleared away the ice only to find Franklin's driver and fireman drinking cocoa as if nothing had happened."

RS Mr. Conductor: "Luckily for them. But it just goes to show you can't trust changelings."

Owl: "Or snow."

Narrator: "Said Owl. The men had just cleared the snow away from him when Garfield puffed by with his machine."

Garfield: "Hey look out, there's snow about!"

Narrator: "Laughed Garfield. He stopped by the tunnel, and kicked loudly. Then it happened."

Garfield: "Uh oh."

(Avalanche falls on Garfield)

Garfield: "Help!"

Narrator: "Cried Garfield."

RS Mr. Conductor: "If Franklin survived a snowfall and laughed, surely a big proud cat like you can do the same."

Narrator: "Chuckled RS Mr. Conductor.

Garfield: "Pooh!"

Narrator: "Moaned Garfield, and then fell as silent as the snow."
