Snowy Mountain Rescue is an Thomas and Friends 9th feature length special film, DVD to be released in 1st September 2015 (UK and AUS). 2nd September 2015 (US and CAN)

It is two days until Christmas on the Island Of Sodor. The engines are busy plowing through the snowdrifts with their snowploughs, and Spencer is also busy helping to build a log cabin for the Duke and Duchess of Boxford, and they want to spend Christmas with their friend Sir Topham Hatt. The log cabin was going to be built on top of a snowy mountain so that the Duke and Duchess could see all of Sodor from atop there. Sir Topham Hat assigns several engines, including Spencer and new friend, Roger to collect logs for the cabin.

At the forest, Thomas is working with Harvey and Terence, who are helping to load the logs onto the flatbeds. This was a job he usually enjoyed. When Spencer arrives to collect the logs from the forest, Thomas tells him that the track is icy and that he should go slow, but Spencer ignores the advice and speeds on the icy tracks. Thomas tries to catch up with him, but he knows better than to go to fast on slippery tracks. Then, Spencer slips off the rails and loses the logs. Quickly, Thomas goes to the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre to collect Rocky from his shed. Rocky was used to lift Spencer and the flatbeds back onto the track. As Thomas and Rocky rescue Spencer, Kelly helps Nelson collect the logs that Spencer has dropped so he can take them to the log cabin. The Fat Controller is cross with Spencer because he had ignored Thomas' advice and lost the logs, and threatens to send him back to the Mainland. Thomas tells Sir Topham Hatt that he doesn't have to do that, as he offers to help. Sir Topham Hatt thinks it's a great idea, and he assigns Thomas to help. Rosie arrives with two flatbeds loaded with logs, as she is helping to build the log cabin as well. Thomas offers to help her with the heavy load, but Rosie only wants to do it by herself.

Rosie takes the logs up the snowy mountain on her own, but the logs are too heavy. As Rosie is struggling up the mountain, the heavy load causes an avalanche that traps her inside a snowdrift. Rosie's crew jump clear seconds before the avalanche traps Rosie. Rosie is unable to move, and is stuck in the snowdrift at the top of the mountain.

Back at the bottom of the mountain, Thomas is worried about Rosie, as she is only a young tank engine. If they had been working together, they would have gotten the logs up to the top of the mountain and made it back down by now.

That night, Sir Topham Hatt holds a meeting around the turntable at Tidmouth Sheds. He tells the engines that Rosie is trapped in an avalanche. He also tells them that she has the remaining logs for the cabin. Without them, the cabin will remain unfinished, so rescuing her will be one of the most important jobs on the island. He tells the engines to get a good night's sleep, as he will give them their orders first thing tomorrow morning. At the mountain, it continues to snow. Rosie's crew had taken shelter in a nearby cottage, but Rosie was still trapped in the snowdrift. Her fire had gone out, and her funnel was covered in icicles. She felt very sad because she knew she should have accepted Thomas' help.

The next morning, Sir Topham Hatt assigns the other engines to collect workmen, logs, and building supplies for the cabin. He assigns Thomas and Percy to assist with rescuing Rosie. He sends them to the Sodor Steamworks to have their snowplows fitted, and they set off immediately. On their way to the Sodor Steamworks, they pass by Brendam Docks. BoCo is at the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre, collecting Rocky from his shed, as Rocky is needed to help build the log cabin. Thomas tells BoCo that he is worried about Rosie. He offered to help her, but she wanted to do the job on her own. BoCo tells him that Rosie will be rescued, as building the log cabin wouldn't be complete without her logs. He tells Thomas and Percy to hurry to the Steamworks, and that he will meet them at the top of the mountain.

Meanwhile, Rosie was still trapped in the snowdrift. All she could do was to watch engines bring their loads of logs, building supplies, and workmen up the mountain. They were all too busy building the log cabin to help her.

Thomas and Percy arrive at the Steamworks, where Victor has their snowplows ready. He has heard about the avalanche and wants to help his friends. His assistant, Kevin the Crane, helps fit Thomas and Percy into their snowplows. Ordinarily, Thomas would have hated wearing his snowplow, but today he was too worried about Rosie to care. She was his friend, and friends don't leave their friends trapped in snowdrifts.

Thomas leads the way to the top of the mountain, with Percy following behind him. The tunnel that leads to the top of the mountain is dark and spooky, so Percy makes sure to stay close to Thomas. At the top of the mountain, they see the snowdrift and hear Rosie calling for help. They are relieved to have found her and immediately clear the tracks with their snowplows, but Rosie is still trapped in the snowdrift. Thomas has an idea; if he and Percy wheesh their steam loud and strong enough, it might melt the snow. Their idea works, but they end up using a lot of coal to make it work. The steam also makes the tracks wet and slippery. Thomas, Percy, and Rosie all slide down the mountain, yelling in both excitement and terror as they slide.

Thomas, Percy, and Rosie make it to the bottom of the mountain, but they are all out of coal. They see Edward on his way to the Coal Depot to begin his coal deliveries with James and Hector. They ask if he can help them by bringing back fresh coal to fill their bunkers. Edward tells his friends that he'll see what he can do, and sets off for the coaling plant. At the coaling plant, Edward tells the Coal Depot Manager that Thomas, Percy, and Rosie need fresh coal to refill their bunkers. The Manager is happy to hear that Rosie has made it out safely and is willing to help her and her friends. He loads Hector with coal and tells James to take Hector's coal to Thomas, Rosie, and Percy at the bottom of the mountain.

That night, all the engines gather at the top of the mountain, where the new log cabin is. Sir Topham Hatt declares the new cabin open, and that the Duke and Duchess will have a nice new home for the winter. Spencer thanks Thomas and Roger for helping him with the log cabin, as even he couldn't have gotten the job done without him. Harold the Helicopter arrives with the greatest surprise of all; Santa Claus! Rosie was glad she could be with her friends on such a wonderful Christmas Eve. It was no fun getting stuck in the snowdrift, but it was all worth it to spend such a wonderful Christmas Eve with her friends. All the engines celebrate and everyone agreed that it was such a merry Christmas Eve.
