Hi guys,

is it possible to install a full Linux on a Qnap TS-109? Debian, Redhat, Suse, Ubuntu, I don't really care.

I got a NSLU2, wiped out the flash and installed Debian on it. The good thing about it is that it is a real Linux: I can run NFS, NIS, autofs, I can install regular debian packages, compile stuff with GCC, and so on. I have a central user database in NIS, and a uniform filesystem from several systems that's based on NFS and automounter.

The only thing about NSLU2 is that it has so little main memory (only 32MB). That's too little to run Firefox, and even Emacs starts to swap. When I access the external harddisk on USB, I get a load of 2 because not only nfsd is running at full load, but there is also some usb driver that is consuming CPU cycles, too. It would be great to have such a system with more main memory, like TS-109 appears to have 128MB.

I'd like to keep my NIS/autofs system, that's why I think all these samba-centric embedded Linux solutions appear to be not the right thing for me. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So my question is: can I install Debian on a TS-109?
