Steven & I (Tarae) Have been married for almost 9 years (11/9/1996).We have 2 boys, Steven III -9 & Zachary who will be 8 soon! In April this year (2005), Steve (age 29) was complaining about his stomach feeling like it was streching and alot of pain & stomach cramps. He went to the doctor, thinking maybe it was stress. After the 2nd office visit-the doctor scheduled a ultasound of the abdomen. The ultasound showed a lot of fluid. He was admitted had a parensthesis (sp) and other tests, CT, blood tets & a colonoscopy-all came back negative. The Dr.said it was crohns disease.(with acites)Well of course his mother was not happy with that conclusion-(she is a RN) so she kept on the doctor...as well as keeping on his father for support and help to convince Steve to get 2nd opinion, different doctor, to be more aggressive. She KNEW something more was wrong and felt the doctor was not doing "normal, resonable, diagnostic care" Well his dad thought she was over reacting & did not support her or push the issue.1 month & 2 parenthesis's later they finally did a laprscopy to see if there was anything else they were missing.(after his mom had insisted. She was NOT going to take no for an answer especially when it comes to her kids.)She had requested, asked, begged & threatened from day 1 for a laporoscopy. She finally blew up & insisted- really demanded they do one.),They said it was definitely malignant cancer--but they did not know what type just yet. They sent samples to MD Anderson. Farber, Sloan Kettering, Mayo Clinic & Washington University. Sloan Kettering finally diagnosed his cancer. We were introduced to Dr.Timothy Pluard-his new oncologist at the Siteman Cancer Center (which I must say I belive is one of the best.) It took a week to finally get the diagnosis....stage IV DSRCT-DesmoPlastic Small Round Cell Tumor. SO now life as we know it has changed dramatically....hopefully only temporarily. He has a wonderful attitude & a very loving, tough, determined & supportive family that care much to much about him to let him go!(Especially with out a fight!!!! and one hell of a fight at that). Due to this horrible killer,it has taken my Best friend, and our boy's father! He will be greatly missed and never FORGOTTEN!-Your Loving Wife Tarae
