The Adventures of Thomas and Friends on the Railways of Sodor (now Railway Adventures on Sodor) is a CGI (previously model using) series based the well known series, Thomas and Friends. It took from the series as well as adding over 70 new characters, road and rail.

Season 1 Introductions

  • Daisy is the first diesel on Sodor. She is stationed on Thomas' branchline and based on BR Class 101. She is painted in a BR green livery with yellow lining, similar to the livery of the British Railways DMUs in the 1960s. She wears makeup, including eyelashes, red lipstick, blush and blue eyeshadow.
  • Boco is the second diesel on Sodor. He is stationed on Edward's branchline and pulls the Express sometimes. He is based on BR Class 28, Metropolitan Vickers Diesel Electric Type 2, and painted in a BR green livery used in the 1960s with yellow warning panels.
  • Mavis is the third diesel on Sodor, but NWR D4. She is stationed at Ffarquhar Quarry. She is based on BR Class 04 shunter, with side plates and cowcatchers, and painted NWR black with hazard stripes on her front and rear. She has her name and "The Ffarquhar Quarry Co. Ltd." written on both sides in white.
  • Diesel is, well, used to be, the most evil Diesel on Sodor. Sir Topham Hatt did not buy him and he was sentenced to the Ironworks. Diesel is based on BR Class 08 shunter, and painted in BR black livery used in the 1950s.
  • Arry and Bert were first seen when Diesel tried to scrap some engines. D7 and D8. Arty and Bert are based on BR Class 08 shunters, and painted BR dark green with hazard stripes on their fronts and rears and yellow cabs. They have "Sodor Ironworks" written on their sides in white.
  • Bill and Ben are twin engines who first worked with Donald and Douglas on the branchlines, but were eventually sent to help Boco at the China Clay Quarry. Bill and Ben are based on Bagnall 0-4-0ST "Judy" and "Alfred", and painted NWR yellow and brown with red stripes. Bill and Ben both have brown nameplates with yellow writing, "SCC" written on both sides in yellow and "Brendam Bay" on the front of their saddle tanks. They have number plates reading 1 and 2 respectively above both the back of their cabs and their faces.
  • Whiff is used to collect trash and unused items and take them to Brendam Docks where barges take them to a dump on the mainland. Whiff is based on LNER Class X1 2-2-4T, and painted grubby green with black lining/LNER apple green with white and black stripes. He wears large spectacles on his smokebox

  • Spencer is the second strong, fastest engine on Sodor, outrunning Gordon at twenty-five mph, but caused an accident in his race. He is based on LNER Gresley Class 4-6-2, and painted silver with blue-grey cylinders and wheels and black stripes.
  • Stanley used to work with Thomas, Edward, and Lady before the events of The Three Railway Engines. He is NWR no. 13. He escaped with his brothers. Stanley is based on Hudswell Clark/Kiston No. 5459/Austin No. 1 hybrid 0-6-0ST, and painted silver with red stripes and wheels. He has a red running plate with a dark grey basecoat, and his name on each side of his saddletank.
  • Charlie is the younger brother of Stanley and the older brother of Billy, Russell, and Otto. He is NWR no. 14. He too, escaped with his brothers. Charlie is based on Manninh Wardle L Class 0-6-0ST, and painted NWR purple with white stripes and red wheels.
  • Billy is in the middle of the five Manning Wardle brothers and the most childish. He gets into frequent accidents. He is NWR no. 15. He escaped as well, but nearly died in the process. Billy is based on Manning Wardle L Class 0-6-0ST, and painted NWR orange with yellow and green stripes.
  • Danni is an express engine based on Caledonian Railway Single no. 123. She is like a sister to Rosie and very kind. She is concerned about her friends and tends to worry when bad things happen. She is NWR no. 26. She is painted NWR royal blue with red stripes.
  • Neville is Molly's male best friend, and somehow looks like a diesel with a tender. He is loyal and friendly to fellow steam engines, and the trucks try not to upset him. Neville is based on the SR Class Q1. He is painted BR black.

Season 2 Introductions

  • Arthur is the lead engine of Kippernium Branch and the strongest tank engine to date. He works best with engines like Salty, as they find joy in fish and the sea. Also, they are both master storytellers. Arthur is based on LMS Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-2T, and painted LMS crimson red with yellow stripes.
  • Salty is on old diesel shunter working at Brendam docks. He is easy-going, friendly and very practical. He also enjoys telling stories revolving around the sea and fantasy. Salty is based on the BR Class 07. He is BR no. 2991. He is painted crimson with pink warning stripes along his body, wasp stripes on his front and rear and yellow buffer beams with signs of rust. At the top of his forehead, he has the rim of a skipper's hat.
  • Eagle is James' older brother, and wise like Edward. He pulls passenger trains through the day, but often pulls trucks. Eagle, like James, is based on the L&YR Class 25. He was brought to help with the restoration of Kippernium, but quit, being a hater of fish. Eagle is based on L&YR Class 27/28 hybrid 2-6-0 with a Fowler tender, and painted NWR red with blue and yellow stripes and black footplate.
  • Murdoch is the thrid strongest engine on Sodor and works on the Kippernium Branch Line with Billy, Salty, and Harvey. He likes Peace and Quiet. He came to help after Eagle quit. Murdoch is based on BR Riddles 9F 2-10-0, and painted NWR with gold, green and red stripes, and smoke deflectors, on which he wears red nameplates with gold lettering.
  • Hank is the strongest engine on Sodor and the record holder for longest freight train puller on Sodor. He is painted dark blue with red lining, wheels and cowcatcher. He is based on the PRR Class K4 Pacific. He came to help with mainline frieght.
  • Rosie is Thomas' American cousin, and she can't pull heavy trains, but proves that little engines can do big things. Rosie is based on the USA SR dock tank. She came with Hank to help on Thomas' branchline. Rosie is painted NWR pink with red wheels, red and yellow stripes and gray side tanks.
  • Harvey is the crane engine who works all over Sodor. Before moving to the Sodor Search & Rescue Center, he used to temporarily work on the Kippernium Branch. Nowadays, he is used for rescue missions. He is NWR no. 27. He was replaced with Salty. Harvey is based on Dubs Crane Engine No. 4101, and painted NWR maroon red with yellow stripes and brown buffers. His name and the number "27" is written on both his sides in yellow, however the "27" is painted on his crane.
  • Dennis is a grumpy diesel shunter. He sometimes loses his temper, which once caused him which once caused him to crash into the back wall of the shed. Despite this, Dennis is a hard worker and is sometimes called upon to rescue engines who have broken down. He is based on the Bullied 11001, and painted NWR gray.
  • Marty is the newest engine on Norramby, and also the strongest. He was naive and silly when he first arrived, but learned the value of teamwork Molly's injector failed and Marty had to pull Molly and their train single-handedly. Marty is based on the LSWR Class M7, and painted red.
  • Harley is the newest engine on Sodor, and also one of the strongest. He is constantly late with all his trains and for meetings. The other engines feel sorry for his lateness, but James cannot help teasing him about it. Harley is not based on any particular locomotive class; he is custom built at Crovan's Gate. He is a NWR 4-2-2 well tank, and painted NWR red with yellow stripes and wheels and black footplate.
  • Fergus is a steam traction locomotive working at the quarry. He mainly works at the cement works, and thus calls himself "the pride of the cement works". Fergus is based on an Aveling and Porter railway traction engine. He is painted navy with gold stripes and red wheels.

Movie Introductions

  • Lady is the magical source of the Island of Sodor. She is a beautiful, kind-hearted, and friendly tank engine. Lady's closest friends are Thomas and Stanley from their old railway. Lady is a modified K&SER Northiam with the rear cab cut off and an enlarged chimney. She is painted reddish-violet with head lamps on the front pootplate, gold buffers, smokebox and funnel top, dome and whistle, side rods, lining, and her name on each side in gold, and black footplate, cab roof, lower funnel section.
  • Diesel 10 is the main villain of the movie. He is an evil, conniving, bullying, and psychotic monster. He absolutely despises steam engines, and would call them taunting names like "puffball" and "teapot". Diesel 10 is based on a BR Class 42 "Warship" with an added non-regulation hydraulic claw. He is painted rusty brownish-olive green with yellow-tan stripes, covered in oil stains and a brown-grey claw.
  • Splatter and Dodge are Diesel 10's bungling henchmen, whom he collectively calls "Splodge" to save time. The two grow disdain for him by the end of the movie, and refuse to help him catch Thomas and Lady. Splatter and Dodge are based on the BR Class 08, like Diesel, Arry, and Bert. They are heavily weathered, and painted dark gray with purple and olive radiators and cabs, respectively.
  • LNER No. 3 - Alfred the Loaned B12

Season 3 Introductions

  • Victor is a red Hispanic tank engine in charge of the Sodor Steam Works - a fueling hub for the engines on Sodor. While he is very busy, he's known for his friendly, engaging personality. Victor is based on Baldwin saddle tank No. 1173' with added side tanks, one less dome, and his bell moved to the front of his boiler. He is painted NWR maroon red with yellow stripes and hazard stripes on his bufferbeams. The side of his cab has the Sodor Steamworks logo.
  • Hiro is an old Japanese engine doing passenger work on the main line. He often tells tales about how he worked on the Japanese railways. Hiro is based on the rebuilt Japanese National Railways class D51 steam locomotive. He is painted black with yellow stripes and red wheels. His name is written in black on gold nameplates, on his smoke deflectors. He has the number "51" painted on the sides of his tender in white.
  • Flora is a yellow steam tram residing at Sodor Tramways. Flora is based on a 1903 Moseley Road Tramway steam tram, rebuilt into standard gauge. Instead of buffers, she has four couplings upon her front and rear buffer beam. She has a 0-4-0 wheel arrangement. She is painted NWR yellow with red side plates, green and white lining, and green boards on her roof reading "Sodor Tramways".
  • Zack is a blue LNER tank engine. He is small, but very powerful. Zack is kind and gentle like Boco, even the trucks do not play tricks on him. Zack is also a member of Norramby branch line, and likes working with Molly. Zack is a Holden rebuild of the LNER Holmes J83 tank engine. He is painted NWR blue with yellow wheel trim and footplate and red stripes.
  • No. 13 is an unlucky engine. When he first arrived he caused trouble for Thomas and Percy, had his firebox damaged and stuck in a landslide. After his repairs, 13 told Thomas and Percy that he came to Sodor as an unlucky engine, but returned to the mainland as a very lucky engine. No. 13 is similar to Stanley, minus a cab roof. He is based on LNER Class J52 0-6-0ST, and painted NWR black with red stripes.

Season 4 Introductions

  • NWR no. 84 - Gregory the Express Engine is an express engine. He was a conceited engine who thinks tank engines are useless, even if they have 14 wheels or their name is Stevenson. He soon learned his lesson when he helped Thomas after his injector failed. 98462 is based on the LNER Holden B12. His model is recycled from Alfred.
  • 87546/Martin is a mixed-traffic engine. He was a grumpy and lazy engine like Dennis and refused to pull goods trains. He learned his lesson with having a collision with Neville. Now 87546 became Martin, and works hard on Norramby branchline, and has also found Molly the D16 a great LNER friend. 87546 is based on the LNER Gresley B17. His model is recycled from Cecil.
  • D7101/Bear is a passenger diesel. He is loyal and friendly, and respectful to all engines, steam or diesel. D7101 came on loan to Sodor with another diesel, 199, who was mean to the steam engines. The others persuaded Sir Topham Hatt to keep D7101, and he is now called Bear. Bear is based on the BR Class 35, Hymek. He is NWR D3. He is painted in a BR green livery with a narrow band of lime along the bottom of the sides with cream window surrounds and yellow warning panels.
  • D199/Spamcan is a goods diesel. He was pompous and rude, and sided with the general belief amongst diesels that steam engines are inferior to diesel power. 199 ironically failed and had to be helped home by Molly. He was soon sent home in disgrace. 199 is based on the BR Class 44, Peak, and painted in a BR blue livery with with yellow warning panels, weathered with dirt and face stubble.
  • Pip and Emma are high-speed diesels. They are based on the British Rail Class 43 HST. They are painted in the original InterCity 125 livery of yellow and blue. They were built in 1976 and arrived on Sodor in 1986. Pip and Emma are voiced by Teresa Gallagher in UK, and Jules de Jongh in US.
  • Derek is a kind and friendly diesel. He is based on BR Class 17. He is BR no. 2512. He is painted BR green with yellow warning panels. He was built in 1962 and arrived on Sodor in 1998. He is voiced by Keith Wickham in UK, and Kerry Shale in US.
  • Sam is an old Scottish engine. He has a strong Scottish accent and has a Scottish attitude, i.e. doesn't always listen to the "English" engines. However, once he met Donald and Douglas, he changed completely and is always a welcome visitor to the sheds. Sam is based on the LNER J39, the most numerous of Gresley's designs.
  • Chelsea is a mixed-traffic female engine. She is one of the youngest engines, and wears her LNER green livery with pride. Her best friends are Emily, Molly, and Thomas. Chelsea is based on the LNER Class K3.
  • Becky is a Great Western goods engine. Becky's best friends are Duck, Oliver, Molly and Thomas. Becky is based on the GWR 2301 Class Dean Goods. She is painted in GWR green livery.
  • Gwen is Molly's younger sister. She was built in 1984, as a replica for the LNER Claud Hamilton. She's a goth engine, which is evident through her wearing of black make-up and black paint scheme. Despite her often morbid and broodily personality, she is quite friendly and loves her "sister" Molly beyond anything. Still, she can be get very creepy at times and is not afraid to speak her mind.

Season 5 Introductions

  • Kenny is a very unlucky engine. He causes a lot of accidents, even if it isn't his fault. Thomas, Percy, Toby, and Edward care for him, but James just seems to taunt him for his bad luck. Later he was rebuilt into a traction engine behind the shed. Later, Kenny was rebuilt into a tender engine again. He is painted orange.
  • Earl is an express engine. He's the second of his class, and helps Gordon and Spencer with the Wild Nor' Wester. Earl is based on the un-streamlined LNER Class P2.
  • Sir Nigel Gresley is one of Spencer's brothers. He's very competitive, and wants to prove his speed and strength. Sir Nigel, like Spencer, is based on the LNER Class A4, and is remarkably a real engine.
  • Bridget is a very shy and timid engine, but when she meets Edward, she gains confidence. Bridget is based on the LNER Gresley Class D49.
  • Charles is a mixed-traffic engine. He had problems on his first day, but he did well the next day, and even made the trucks behave. Charles is based on the LNER Class C1.
  • Harry is Oliver's brother. GWR Class 14xx.
  • Goose is Duck's brother. GWR Class 57xx.
  • Quinlee plays a rival to Molly, mostly because of Molly's dislike for Thompson designs. In the end, they made up and became friends. Quinlee is based on the LNER Thompson Class B1.
  • Ryan is a freight engine with an attitude. He didn't take to the smaller engines, but when he bashed into two lorries who were competing with Percy and Eagle, Ryan has changed completely. Ryan is based on the LMS Stanier 8F.
  • Quinten is Neville's sole surviving brother. The two engines fell out after an accident, but now Neville and Quinten are friends again. Quinten loves telling jokes. He is based on the SR Class Q1.
  • Walter is Toby's cousin. Despite his small size, Walter is strong in strength, and proved so to James. Walter is based on the LNER Class Y6, and early development of the J70.
  • Jim is Thomas' substitute when Emily and Thomas go to the other railway to search for new engines. When he arrived, Molly disliked him for "replacing" Thomas. After Thomas and Emily's return with the new engines, Molly forgave Jim, who was allowed to stay. Jim is based on the LMS Fowler 4F No. 44422.
  • Wendy is Emily's substitute when Thomas and Emily go to the other railway to search for new engines. After Thomas and Emily's return with the new engines, Wendy was allowed to stay. Wendy is based on the LSWR Class T9 No. 30120. She is painted NWR purple with yellow wheels and white stripes.
  • Edwin is a powerful-mixed traffic tank engine. He pulls goods trains with Stanley, and takes Annie, Brittany and Clarabel when Thomas is ill or away. Edwin is based on the LNER Class V3. He is painted NWR black with red stripes.

Season 6 Introductions

  • Albert is Thomas' father. His character appears to be like that of Thomas - he described Albert as being gentlemanly and polite. Albert is based on the Parker J1 2-4-2 class, rebuilt from the earlier E1 class of 2-4-0 tank engines of 1870, which were built originally by Sharp, Stewart and Co. He is painted FR Indian red with yellow stripes and black footplate.
  • Marie is Thomas' mother. Oddly enough, Thomas resembles her more than he does Albert. Marie is sometimes cheeky like her son. Marie is based on the LB&SCR Class E2, like Thomas. She is painted a deeper shade of blue with red stripes.
  • Kitchener is an ex-army locomotive. His full name is "The Sodor Regiment" after the island's army regiment, but he was given his nickname on arrival to help along the Sir Topham Hatt's extension line. He is based on the LMS Royal Scot.
  • Wilbert is the newest tank engine on Thomas' branchline. He is very sensible and polite, and does his best to work well. Wilbert is also clever and inventive. Wilbert is based on the LNER Class J94/Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0 saddle tank. He is painted dark blue with red stripes and black wheels. He also has red nameplates with gold writing. His nameplates have the words "Rev. W. Awdry" underneath "Wilbert".
  • Nigel is a mixed-traffic engine. When we meet him, Eagle at first mistook him for a ghost. Nigel now works on Norramby branch line, and has found Zack the J83 a great North Eastern friend. Nigel is named after his designer, Sir Nigel Gresley, and is based on the rebuilt LNER Gresley V2 with LMS Stanier components and Fowler tender.
  • Kyle is very loyal and a hard worker. Kyle isn't boastful or silly, and he wants to prove himself useful to the Fat Controller's railway. He'll stand no nonsense when the other engines boss him about! He is based on LMS Fowler Class 4F. He is painted orange, green and red. He works on Duck's branchline.
  • Clyde is a small engine who works on Duck's branchline. He is not very bright (in intelligence), explaining why he doesn't shunt the trucks on the right lines. Nevertheless, he's still a really useful engine all the same. He is based on Caledonian Railway 0-4-0T. He is painted Caledonian Railway blue.
  • Topham Hatt is a large, powerful and bright blue engine and is a A1/C1/LMS 4F hybrid with a six wheel tender. He is named after Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Hunter is a GWR tank engine. Hunter was built in 1906. He is used for shunting coaches for the bigger engines (Gordon, Henry, 98462, 87546), and is a useful tank engine. Hunter is currently working on Duck's branchline as a shunting engine. He is based on GWR 45xx Class. He is painted GWR green.
  • Simon is a green engine. Simon and his sister, Sarah, were built on the GWR, and came to Ireland, where they lived since. Molly, Neville, and Eagle brought them to Sodor, and there Simon and Sarah now live. He is the older of the two, is sensible, cocky, and often impatient. He is based on GWR 61xx Class.
  • Sarah is a green engine. Sarah and her brother, Simon, were built on the GWR, and came to Ireland, where they lived since. Molly, Neville, and Eagle brought them to Sodor, and there Simon and Sarah now live. She is the younger of the two, can be shy and sensitive, but still proves useful. She is based on GWR 61xx Class. She is painted green.
  • Hisheyadi is a strong Japanese tender engine doing passenger work. He is based on Japanese National Railway C62 steam locomotive.
  • Otto is a small saddletank engine and Stanley's brother. He is based on Stanley's class.
  • Michelle is a good-natured but timid tender engine. Michelle is based on LMS Jubilee Class. She is painted royal green with red stripes.
  • Timothy is a red tank engine. He is based on LBSCR Class E4 tank engine.

Season 7 Introductions

  • Theodore is Emily's brother. He is a Stirling Single. Sir Topham Hatt kept him after he helped on the extension line.
  • Xavier is a rude engine who learns to befriend the others. He is based on the LNER B12.
  • Xena is a nice engine. She is kind and frinedly, and her best briends are Emily, Molly, Danni, and Rosie. She is based on the LMS Black 5 with an LNER A4 style tender.
  • Xander is a clumsy but kind engine. He tries to show Xavier the error of his ways. He is much like Bear. He was built at Crewe as the first of the NWR Class J1. They are like trams with bunkers.
  • Stephanie is a custom yellow 4-4-0 tank engine built by the Sodor Steamworks. Stephanie is found a very shy and quiet engine. Her best friends are Molly and Emily. Voiced by Teresa Gallagher in Uk and Jules de Jongh in US.
  • Maddie is a steam railcar. She is based on LNER Sentinel Steam Railcar.
  • Vincent is a green 4-4-0 tender engine with red lining and a eight-wheel tender, resembling Edward. He is based on the London and South Western Railway 'T9' Class 4-4-0. Only one has survived into preservation which is No.120 (BR No.30120) currently based at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway in Cornwall, Southern England. He is voiced by Matt Wilkinson in UK, and William Hope in US.
  • Fletcher is a old tender engine. He is based on Furness Railway E1 2-4-0 tender engine. He is voiced by Keith Wickham in UK, and Martin Sherman in US.

Season 8 Introductions

South Western Railway

  • Zack is the oldest of the engines on the South Western Railway. Like NWR Thomas, he is one of the oldest, but acts younger. Underneath that, he's really a friendly tank engine, and is willing to help his friends. Zack is based on LB&SCR E2. He is SWR no. 1. His friends are everyone on the railway. He likes helping out and working with friends. He hates/fears screwing up, losing friends, heights, scrapyards, evil diesels. He is shy, sensitive and friendly. He was built in 1913.
  • Phil is one of the older engines on the SWR. He helped build the railway. Now, Matthew is a loyal and hard worker on the South Western. Matthew is based on Furness Railway K2 woth a Fowler tender. He is SWR no. 2. His friends are Zack, Herbert, Daniel, George, Nick, Tim, Bert, Theodore, Franklin, Evan, and Zoe. He likes helping out and being wise. He hates/fears breaking down and being proven wrong. He is kind, smart and caring. He was built in 1896.
  • Herbert is one of the older engines of the SWR. He was bought to the SWR with another engine, Daniel. He pulls goods trains on the main line, and sometimes express trains when Daniel is ill or away. His best friend is Daniel. He is based on LMS Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0. He is SWR no. 3. His friends are SWR no 1 - 12 and basically anyone who is not evil/bad. He likes the smell of fish, other LMS engines and the outdoors. He hates/fears being dirt and Class 08 shunters. He is peaceful, friendly and dense. He was built in 1920. He is a engine similar to NWR Henry, except he was built from stolen LNER A4 plans. The plans were Sir Nigel Gresley's failed A4 designs. He had an accident and was rebuilt into his present form.
  • Daniel is an express engine on the SWR. He was bought along with Herbert. He pulls the express on the main line, and he hates trucks. Daniel is based on LNER Gresley Class A1/3 4-6-2. He is SWR no. 4. His friends are everyone on the railway. He likes his friends, being on time and the express. She hates/fears dirty coal trucks, getting dirty and running late.
  • George thinks of himself as the best engine on the railway, leading him to humiliation and embarrassment. He is sometimes a bully to the smaller engines like Zack, but he does learn what they can do in the end. He is based on L&YR Aspinall Class 27/Hughes Class 28 2-6-0 with a Fowler tender. He is SWR no. 5. His friends are Herbert, Daniel and Phil. He likes showing off, attention and acceptance. He hates/fears losing, getting into trouble and idiots. He is arrogant and stuck-up.
  • Nick is Zack's best friend. He likes pulling the mail, as it's his favorite duty of all. When he's pulling trucks, this leading him to an accident. He sometimes cannot help it. He is based on GWR Avonside Class 1340 with No. 1430 "Trojan" body shape and 1361 Class bunker. He is SWR no. 6. His friends are Zack and SWR no 2 - 12 and basically anyone who is not evil/bad. Central Western Railway

  • Albert is the oldest of the engines on the South Western Railway. Like SWR Zack, he is one the oldest, but acts younger. Underneath that, he's really a friendly tank engine, and is willing to help his friends. He is based on LB&SCR E2. He is CWR no. 1. His friends are everyone on the railway. He likes helping out and working with friends. He hates/fears screwing up, losing friends, heights, scrapyards, evil diesels. He was built in 1913. He, Andrew, and Abby (not CWR no. 12) built the railway.
  • Andrew is one of the older engines on the CWR. He helped build the railway. Now, Matthew is a loyal and hard worker on the South Western. Matthew is based on Furness Railway K2 woth a Fowler tender. He is CWR no. 2. His friends are all CWR engines, as he finds the good in anybody who is good. He likes helping out and being wise. He hates/fears breaking down and being proven wrong. He is kind, smart and caring. He was built in 1896.
  • Hamilton is one of the older engines of the CWR. He was bought to the CWR with another engine, Frederick. He pulls goods trains on the main line, and sometimes express trains when Frederick is ill or away. His best friend is Frederick. He is based on LMS Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0. He is CWR no. 3. His friends are CWR no 1 - 12 and basically anyone who is not evil/bad. He likes the smell of fish, other LMS engines and the outdoors. He hates/fears being dirt and Class 08 shunters. He is peaceful, friendly and dense. He was built in 1920. He is a engine similar to NWR Henry, except he (Henry) was built from stolen LNER A3 plans. The plans were Sir Nigel Gresley's prototype A1/3 designs. As we all know now, the prototype was successful (but not from these plans) and was sold to the NWR as Gordon. Hamilton had an accident and was rebuilt into his present form. He used be a replica built when Henry first arrived on the NWR. Henry's controller tried to build a replica of Henry. When the CWR was desperate for engines, Hanilton was purchased Hamilton, who had been locked up for nearly 100 years.
  • Frederick, or Fred, is an express engine on the CWR. He was bought along with Hamilton. He pulls the express on the main line, and he hates trucks. Frederick is based on LNER Gresley Class A1/3 4-6-2. He is CWR no. 4. His friends are everyone on the railway. He likes his friends, being on time and the express. He hates/fears dirty coal trucks, getting dirty and running late.
  • Gregory thinks of himself as the best engine on the railway, leading him to humiliation and embarrassment. He is sometimes a bully to the smaller engines like Chris, but he does learn what they can do in the end. He is based on L&YR Aspinall Class 27/Hughes Class 28 2-6-0 with a Fowler tender. In Seasons 13-19 the S&M Railway reopened as an NWR branch and four railways were created after the UESMR (Union of England Sodor and Man Railways) was founded. The LNER, LMS, LSWR, and LB&SCR opened. (London Norramby and Eastern Railway/London Mid Sodor Railway/London Sodor Western Railway/London Brendam and Sodor Coast Railway) Two more opened as the ESMR (England, Man, and Sodor Railway) and the SSEM&NER (South Sodor Eastern Man and North England Railway) BR preserved steam engines, BR diesels, BR electrics, five NWR engines, and one Man engine run these railways. The LNER run from King's Cross to Norramby and express to the western most point of the EWR (Eastern Waterfall Railway), then they run side-by-side. The LMS runs from Euston to Ulfstead Road on express service then three meters away from the Arlesdale Railway following the same route it then down Duck's branch line to Knapford. The LSWR runs from St. Pancras to Crovan's Gate to Kildane to Wellsworth, down to Brendam, back up to Arlesburgh West, the terminus of Duck's branchline to Godred, then up north to the terminus. The LB&SCR runs from Paddington to Kirk Ronan and on to Great Waterton then crosses the Bay of Brendam, stops at Brendam and follows Edward's branch to Knapford. The S&M runs from Crovan's Gate to Vicarstown via Ballahoo, to the far north, then west to Barrow.

The Skarloey Railway

  • Skarloey is the first engine on the Skarloey Railway. He arrived with Rheneas. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Talyllyn, a Fletcher-Jennings 0-4-2ST, and painted SR red with blue stripes and his name painted in gold on his saddletank.
  • Rheneas is the second engine on the Skarloey Railway. He arrived with Skarloey. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Dolgoch, a Fletcher-Jennings 0-4-0WT, and painted red-orange with blue stripes.
  • Sir Handel is the third engine on the Skarloey Railway. He came with Peter Sam. He was rescued from scrap by Thomas. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Sir Haydn, Hughes' Falcon Works 0-4-2ST, and painted blue with red stripes.
  • Peter Sam is the fourth engine on the Skarloey Railway. He came with Sir Handel. He was rescued from scrap by Edward. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Edward Thomas, a Kerr-Stuart Tattoo Class 0-4-2ST, and painted green with red stripes.

Season 3

The Skarloey Railway

  • Rusty is the fifth engine on the Skarloey Railway. He came with Duncan as spare engines when the line was being extended. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Midlander, a Ruston & Hornsby diesel, and painted orange with yellow stripes and white lettering.
  • Duncan is the sixth engine on the Skarloey Railway. He came with Rusty as spare engines when the line was being extended. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Douglas, a Andrew Barclay E Class 0-4-0WT, and painted yellow with gold and black stripes.
  • Ivo Hugh is the seventh engine on the Skarloey Railway. He was built by the Steamworks after the workload became taxing. He is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Tom Rolt, and painted purple with yellow stripes.

The Mid-Sodor Railway

  • Duke was the first engine on the MSR. He was Sir Handel and Peter Sam's mentor. He was first seen when Victor, Kevin, Thomas, Edward, Sir Handel, Molly, Peter Sam, and Rusty were locked up in the Steamworks and Peter Sam told a story of their old railway. Duke is based on the Ffestiniog Railway's Prince, a George England 0-4-0 tender engine. He was painted brown with "The Duke" written on his sides and "MS" written on his tender.
  • Stanley (narrow gauge) was the second engine on the MSR. After an accident, he was put in the back of the shed. He was scrapped at the closure of the railway right before Thomas and Edward rescued Sir Handel and Peter Sam. Stanley was based on Baldwin class 10-12-D 4-6-0PT, and painted red with black stripes.
  • Falcon was Sir Handel. He was the third engine. Falcon was painted blue.
  • Stuart was Peter Sam. He and Thomas were great friends when they were both Stuart. When the Skarloey Railway needed more engines, Thomas went to find him, but found Falcon. Stuart was was painted green while working on the Mid Sodor Railway.

Season 5

The Skarloey Railway

  • Duke became the eighth engine on the Skarloey Railway when he was rescued. He is painted brown with yellow lining.
  • Fred is the ninth engine on the Skarloey Railway. He was built by the Steamworks from two worn out diesels purchased by the SR. Fred is based on the Talyllyn Railway's Alf, a Hunslet Engine Co. diesel, and painted black with yellow stripes and white lettering.

Season 6

The New Mid-Sodor Railway

This new railway was founded when Sir Topham Hatt, Mr. Percival, and Mr. Fergus Duncan spoke of rebuilding the MSR. Thomas, Molly, Henry, James, Emily, and Hank helped build the railway with the help of the Arlesdale Railway and the new SR purchase, Buzz. The opening day train was double-headed by Duke and Buzz on a cold winter morning. Buzz took until 23:59 to get started up after getting numerous jump-starts from cars.

  • Buzz is the first engine on the new MSR. He is based on the Ffestiniog Railway's 'Upnor Castle', a 1954-built FC Hibberd 'Planet' Class diesel.
  • Smudger is the second engine on the MSR. He is a replica of Rheneas built by the Sodor Steamworks. He earned his name when Percy noticed that he had a leak that "smudged" the rails. Even though the problem was fixed, the name stuck. He had actually come out early to rescue Duncan's train. Smudger is based on Fletcher-Jennings 0-4-0WT, and painted dark green with black stripes, and his nameplate and number were both gold.

Season 7

The Skarloey Railway

  • Bertram is the tenth engine on the Skarloey Railway. He was found by Stanley when Sir Topham Hatt was taking a trip and they got lost. Stanley crashed into a shed after passing through a broken red signal and trying to brake. Betram is based on the Ffestiniog Railway's Palmerston, a George England 0-4-0 tender engine, and painted dark brown with red stripes.
  • Mighty Mac is the eleventh engine on the Skarloey Railway. They were purchased by the NWR and sold the SR at nearly ₤1100. Mighty Mac is based on the Ffestinog Railway's Double Fairlie, and painted royal blue with gold and orange stripes.
  • Freddie, so named because Fred was taken, is SR no 12. His sides say 7, but he is the twelfth engine and hence, SR no. 12. He was built on the Welsh Highland Railway. Freddie is based on the Welsh Highland Railway's Russel, a Hunslet Engine Co. 2-6-2 tank engine, and painted gray with black and red stripes. He has black nameplates and numberplates with gold writing. The case of the double sevens is perplexing. Freddie was purchased in 1990. In '91, he had and accident has was away for a long overhaul. Meanwhile, Ivo Hugh was constructed. In 2006, he was loaned to another railway. In 2007, Freddie returned from his overhaul. On December 21, 2011, Ivo Hugh returned. The long, embittering fight continued until an event in 2012 which provided that Skarloey and Rheneas were on loan to the Tallylyn Railway, Sir Handel and Peter Sam were at the Mid Sodor Railway, Rusty, Fred, and Duncan were having overhauls, Bertram and Mighty Mac both collided on that fateful day, prompting the sevens to go on, take both trains, reach Crovan's Gate before 00:00, and save the Skarloey Railway, all the while battling a fierce snowstorm.

The Mid Sodor Railway

  • Hawk is the new MSR no. 3. He was built at the Steamworks to look exactly like Sir Handel. He got his name after his first train. The train was full of birdwatchers looking for the rare Sodor Blue Hawk.
  • Wallace is MSR no. 4. He was built to look like Peter Sam.

Season 10

The Skarloey Railway

  • Sherman is SR no 13, but wears the number 8. Based on Tallylyn Railway no. 8.
  • Brian is SR no 14, but wears SR no. 10. Based on Tallylyn Railway Bryn Eglwys.
  • Ernie is a custom built narrow gauge tender engine. He is an LNER D16 reduced to narrow gauge. He is SR no. 15.
  • Ted is SR no. 16 based on the Ffestiniog Railway single-ended Fairlie locomotive.

The Mid Sodor Railway

  • Jim is MSR no. 5. He is replicated from Duncan and built during the engine rush.
  • Jerry is MSR no. 6. He is replicated from Ernie.
  • Tim is Tom's brother. He is the engine who's known MSR no. 7.
  • Atlas was purchased to work the mines with Alan. MSR no. 8.

The EWR is a narrow gauge railway which travels near numerous waterfalls far more eastern than Norramby and Kippernium branchline. It's engines are 17-24 Mid Sodr and Skarloey Railway. They serve the EWR even though they belong to both the MSR and SR.

  • Duchess is Duke's sister. She is MSR and SR no. 17 and EWR no. 1.
  • Chirp is Buzz's sister. She is MSR and SR no. 18. She is EWR no. 2.
  • Sodor Steed is Duke's brother. He is MS/SR no. 19. He is EWR no. 3.
  • Edwin Richard is Mid Sodor and Skarloey no. 20 and also EWR no. 4.

Season 12

The Eastern Waterfall Railway

  • Franklin is a single ended Fairlie locomotive. MS/SR no. 21. He's EWR no. 5.

Her friends are Zack, Daniel, Nick, Tim, Bert, William and Zoe. She likes anything a girl likes. She hates/fears punks, evil diesels, sickness and scrapyards. She is friendly.

Central Western Railway

  • Albert is the oldest of the engines on the South Western Railway. Like SWR Zack, he is one the oldest, but acts younger. Underneath that, he's really a friendly tank engine, and is willing to help his friends. He is based on LB&SCR E2. He is CWR no. 1. His friends are everyone on the railway. He likes helping out and working with friends. He hates/fears screwing up, losing friends, heights, scrapyards, evil diesels. He was built in 1913. He, Andrew, and Abby (not CWR no. 12) built the railway.
  • Andrew is one of the older engines on the CWR. He helped build the railway. Now, Matthew is a loyal and hard worker on the South Western. Matthew is based on Furness Railway K2 woth a Fowler tender. He is CWR no. 2. His friends are all CWR engines, as he finds the good in anybody who is good. He likes helping out and being wise. He hates/fears breaking down and being proven wrong. He is kind, smart and caring. He was built in 1896.
  • Hamilton is one of the older engines of the CWR. He was bought to the CWR with another engine, Frederick. He pulls goods trains on the main line, and sometimes express trains when Frederick is ill or away. His best friend is Frederick. He is based on LMS Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0. He is CWR no. 3. His friends are CWR no 1 - 12 and basically anyone who is not evil/bad. He likes the smell of fish, other LMS engines and the outdoors. He hates/fears being dirt and Class 08 shunters. He is peaceful, friendly and dense. He was built in 1920. He is a engine similar to NWR Henry, except he (Henry) was built from stolen LNER A3 plans. The plans were Sir Nigel Gresley's prototype A1/3 designs. As we all know now, the prototype was successful (but not from these plans) and was sold to the NWR as Gordon. Hamilton had an accident and was rebuilt into his present form. He used be a replica built when Henry first arrived on the NWR. Henry's controller tried to build a replica of Henry. When the CWR was desperate for engines, Hanilton was purchased Hamilton, who had been locked up for nearly 100 years.
  • Frederick, or Fred, is an express engine on the CWR. He was bought along with Hamilton. He pulls the express on the main line, and he hates trucks. Frederick is based on LNER Gresley Class A1/3 4-6-2. He is CWR no. 4. His friends are everyone on the railway. He likes his friends, being on time and the express. He hates/fears dirty coal trucks, getting dirty and running late.
  • Gregory thinks of himself as the best engine on the railway, leading him to humiliation and embarrassment. He is sometimes a bully to the smaller engines like Chris, but he does learn what they can do in the end. He is based on L&YR Aspinall Class 27/Hughes Class 28 2-6-0 with a Fowler tender. He is CWR no. 5. His friends are Hamilton, Fred and Andrew. He likes showing off, attention and acceptance. He hates/fears losing, getting into trouble and idiots. He is arrogant and stuck-up.
  • Chris is Zack's best friend. He likes pulling the mail, as it's his favorite duty of all. When he's pulling trucks, this leading him to an accident. He sometimes cannot help it. He is based on GWR Avonside Class 1340 with No. 1430 "Trojan" body shape and 1361 Class bunker. He is CWR no. 6. His friends are CWR no 2 - 12 and basically anyone who is not evil/bad. He likes his friends, pulling pranks and the mail. He hates/fears getting in trouble, steep hills, getting in accidents. He is friendly, cheeky, funny and accident-prone.
  • Tom is the only steam tram on the CWR so far. He is old and wise and likes to help out the other engines. Joey is based on LNER Holden Class J70 0-6-0T tram. He is CWR no. 7. His friends are Albert, Chris, Mike and Abby. He does not like not listening, causing trouble and pranking engines. He hates/fears getting caught and punishment.
  • Samuel is the first GWR engine on the CWR. He's a loyal, wise engine and a hard worker who does his work without fuss. His personal philosophy and motto is "there are two ways of doing things: the Great Western way, or the wrong way", which is much like his brothers Duck (NWR) and Bert (SWR). He is based on GWR 57xx Class 0-6-0T. He is CWR no. 8. His friends are CWR no 1 - 12. He likes being reliable and helping out others. He hates/fears break-downs and scrapyards. He is friendly and reliable.
  • Mack and Matthew are twin engines from Scotland. They enjoy a good joke, and their favorite one is impersonating each other. They are used on the main line and Andrew and Samuel's branch lines. They are based on the Caledonian Railway 812. They are CWR no. 9 and 10. They were originally BR no. 57650 and 57651.
  • Mike is Samuel's friend, and has a brakevan called Moss. He is used for passenger duties, and also has two coaches. The trucks bullied him at first, but when he pulled Stick in the Mud apart, they learned to respect him. He is based on the GWR Class 14xx. He is painted green with yellow lining.
  • Abby is a hard working Stirling Single. She mainly talks to the other engines in her free time. Zoe is based on GNR Stirling Single 4-2-2. She's Zoe's sister and looks out for her. She is CWR no. 12. Her friends are everyone on the railway. She likes talking to the others, hanging out and passenger runs. She hates/fears losing friends, thunderstorms and evil diesels. She was built in 1870.
  • Nickel is a very sweet engine, that most of the time, she is very cheerful. Blake is based on LNER Holden Claud Hamilton 4-4-0. She is CWR no. 23. Her friends are Albert, Fred, Chris, Tom, Bert, Matt, Mark, Evan and Zoe. She likes anything a girl likes. She hates/fears punks, evil diesels, sickness and scrapyards. She is friendly.
