Transcript

  • Mark Moraghan: One morning, Ash was picking up some Beedrill from the Cartoon University. He had to take them to Knapford. Ash was feeling happy. He had been having a good morning so far. But as he past the Crocks Scrap Yard, he was surprised.
  • Ash: Blast my head!
  • Narrator: King K. Rool was delivering some scrap there, and on one of his Beedrill was an old square character. He was red, rusty and covered in ivy. Ash immediately recognized him.
  • Ash: Hello, Dan.
  • Dan: Ah, hello, Ash!
  • King K. Rool: Do you two know each other?
  • Ash: Yes, King K. Rool, we do. Dan used to look after my branch line before I arrived on YTV. And when I took charge of it, he told me to look after it, and to wear my number 1 with pride. But why is he here?
  • Dan: I was found in that siding at Ffarquhar by some workman, Ash. The told Steven, who said that he didn't need me here on the North Western Railway anymore. So I was sent here.
  • Duke: Dan is to be scrapped at the end of the day. I've never scrapped a character, and I really don't want to scrap engines, but it's my job to scrunch scrap up.
  • King K. Rool: He's just a useless little teapot, Ash.
  • Ash: No, he' not! Dan is a really useful character, and I want to help him. (Puffs up to Dan) Don't worry, Dan. I'll think of something to save you.
  • Dan: Thank you, Ash, and good luck.
  • Narrator: As Ash puffing around the island for the rest of the morning, he kept trying to think of ways to save Dan from scrap.
  • Suzy: Ash, is everything alright? You've been very quiet today.
  • Ash: Oh, I was just trying to think of a way to save Dan from scrap.
  • Pietra: You mean that coffee pot engine that used to look after your branch line?
  • Ash: The very same. He's going to be scrapped at the end of the day, and I've been trying to think up how to save him. But it seems that there's no room for him anywhere on YTV now.
  • Suzy: Don't give up, Ash!
  • Pietra: Yes, Ash. Dan was a very nice character, and it'd be terrible if he was scrapped.
  • Ash: I won't give up no matter what! I'll make sure our old friend is saved.
  • Narrator: That afternoon, Ash was making a delivery to Ulfstead Castle. As he pulled into the castle, he heard Robert talking Steven.
  • Robert: Steven, I've needed another character on my estate railway in the past few weeks. Ace and Sarah sometimes need to leave for something, even though I need them here to give tours around the castle.
  • Steven: I wish I could help out Robert, but all of my characters have their own work to do. So I can't spare any of them I'm afraid.
  • Narrator: That's when it came to Ash.
  • Ash: Um, excuse me, Robert.
  • Robert: Oh, hello, Ash. How have you been?
  • Ash: Good, sir. I couldn't help overhearing you telling Steven that you need another character on your estate railway, and its given me an idea.
  • Robert: What would that be, Ash?
  • Ash: Well, sir, there's an old engine at the Crocks Scrap Yard named Glynn. He's a coffee pot character who used to look after my branch line. He's a very kind and wise character, but he's going to be scrapped at the end of the day. But maybe he can work on your estate, sir.
  • Robert: Hmmm, that sounds like a good idea, Ash. But I'll have to inspect him first. I'll go to the scrap yard right away.
  • Ash: Thank you, sir.
  • Narrator: So, Robert drove to the scrap yard to see Dan. Dan still looked unhappy.
  • Robert: Excuse me, are you Dan?
  • Dan: That's me. Who are you?
  • Robert: I'm Robert Hawkins, the father of Virgil. Ash has told me about you.
  • Dan: He has?
  • Robert: Yes. I need another character on my estate railway around Ulfstead Castle, and you look like the kind of engine that would be great for it. Would you like to work there?
  • Dan: Oh, yes sir! Anything's better than being scrapped!
  • Robert: Great! But first, I have to talk to the manager of the scrap yard.
  • (Robert walks away to the office)
  • Duke: It sounds like it might be your lucky day, Dan.
  • Dan: I hope so, Duke. I really do.
  • Narrator: Robert returned a few moments later, smiling.
  • Robert: Dan, the manager's agreed to sell you to me.
  • Dan: Oh, thank you, sir! Thank you very much!
  • Narrator: Soon, Ash arrived to take Dan to the steamworks to be restored.
  • Dan: Thank you so much for what you did, Ash!
  • Ash: Well, as I said to Suzy and Pietra, I wasn't going to give up no matter what.
  • (Ash puffs off to the steamworks)
  • Narrator: On the way to the steamworks, they passed King K. Rool. He was very surprised to see Ash pulling the flatbed with Dan still on it.
  • King K. Rool: I thought that teapot was to be scrapped.
  • Ash: He's been saved now!
  • Dan: That's right! I've been saved by Robert Hawkins!
  • King K. Rool: (growls quietly to himself)
  • (Ash and Dan arrive at the steamworks)
  • Ash: Hello, Fox. Hello, Tooty. This is Dan, a coffee pot battle brawler.
  • Tooty: A coffee pot battle brawler? Wow! I've never met one of those before.
  • Fox: Neither have I. I've been told that Dan is to be restored.
  • Dan: That's right. I've been saved from scrap by Robert, but I need to be fixed up before I can start working for him.
  • Fox: Don't worry, Dan. We'll have you fixed up as soon as we can.
  • Narrator: Over the next few weeks, the workmen worked hard on Dan. They gave him a new boiler, new wheels and a new coat of paint. And Dan even told Fox and Tooty stories about his past life on YTV. Fox and Tooty were amazed.
  • Dan: I had a great time working on the North Western Railway, but I'm also looking forward to my new life on the estate.
  • Narrator: At last, Dan's overhaul was completed and he was ready to start work for the first time in years. He was very happy.
  • Dan: Thank you again, Ash for what you did. I'll never forget it.
  • Steven: Yes, Ash. You helped save one of the very first characters on my railway. I'm proud of you!
  • Ash: I'm always happy to help out a friend in need.
  • Narrator: Now, Dan works on Robert's estate with Ace and Sarah. And he's very happy to be a really useful character once again.
