[edit] Rules

  • You are playing The Game
  • Whenever you think about The Game, you lose
  • The loss must be announced e.g. "Dah! I just lost The Game."

[edit] Addendums

Many people will deny playing The Game but others will state that once you know about it you are playing. The argument is often likened to entropy in that it is occurring and you are a factor regardless of whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

After losing The Game and announcing it players are given a grace period in order to forget about The Game. The grace period is typically thirty minutes with various members of the Ship of Fools though there are notable exceptions and grace periods may vary among other groups i.e. those that are not the Ship of Fools.

T-Rex's grace period has often been protested in order to revoke it. The want to revoke it resulted from his uncanny ability to be on a grace period when others would lose The Game. Effectively players lost the game and he did not; moreover, T. Rex often caused others to lose The Game.

Cowboy has proclaimed that he has a grace period until he is 45. Many members of the Purdue Improv Club have proclaimed that he will receive birthday cards and phone calls announcing his loss. These promises were made pointless by Stu who issued Cowboy a "Game Bond" which matures at noon Greenwich Mean Time on his 45th birthday. This modification of grace period was only accomplished by him completing the 77 Trials and Tribulations.

Freshman has announced that his grace period is the half life of a proton, theorized to be several orders of magnitude longer than the estimated age of the universe.

Kamikaze skipped the 77 Trial and Tribulations (as well as turning down the free trip to Albuquerque) and declared a grace period of 15 seconds, thereby rendering herself open to potential game loss at almost any given moment. Some argue that this goes against the traditional reasoning for grace period change. Some hold that Kamikaze is insane. She claims both to be true.

Hallway has claimed to have beaten The Game. He stated this as he found The Game annoying and lame. Hallway has often claimed that when you beat The Game the main character is seen in a green bikini. He has also stated this to be the ending of when a person beats the Internet.

[edit] Classic Losses

Many of the Fools posted away messages, sent text messages, and left messages on blackboards detailing their loss of The Game. During workshops Fools will often mention or have a PowerPoint slide dedicated to The Game. During its peak of play, The Game's combatants were often likened to a sniper/counter-sniper duel. A grace period being their effective ghellie suit and the words "The Game" being their weapon.

[edit] Unusual Association

[edit] Ryan Garwood

Ryan "T-Rex" Garwood is noted for several game losses on account of his watch, which is set to beep twice quietly at the top of each hour. As this is an auditory reminder of the passage of time, it often makes others lose. Ryan, however, is accustomed to it and often loses the game only after others groan hearing the beep.

Following the popular advertising campaign by Arby's, wherein characters would be revealed to be preoccupied with thoughts of food from the restaurant and in turn display the Arby's hat above their head, there was a phase where Ryan would hold his hands over his head in a mime of a block of text. When asked about it, he would respond "I'm thinkin' game", in mimicry.

Lastly, an infamous example of his experiments in game loss, Ryan told stories of making a friend lose the game through an unusual method. Greg Stone owns an Air Wick air freshener that releases a spray of aroma on a timed interval (18 minutes). Ryan suggested that the spray (which itself was fairly loud, and the resultant smell diffused through the room rather strongly after a few seconds) would remind him of the game. Indeed, after a few times Greg began to avoid the living room because of the loss of the game that accompanied every other spray. The interval being what it was, every other spray guaranteed a 30 minute grace period had passed.

[edit] Andrew Blatt

One of the newest Fools, Peace, has begun attempting to force bizarre associations with the game in hopes it will leave a legacy in the Ship of Fools. Examples include:

  • Cowboy saying "Oh yeah?" (Peace is the only one to regularly lose in this way.)
  • Oral sex, prompted by Benji making fun of Peace's efforts. The example got out of hand and was fairly deeply ingrained in everyone's subconscious.
  • Triangles, which have proven to be the most effective so far. Peace holding up a discreet triangle shape with his hands has become a sign of instant game loss, in the same vein as the earlier tradition of miming the Arby's hat for "I'm thinking Gametime."
