The Very Beginning is the pilot episode of Hoop-a-Joop and the very first episode of the first season. It aired on Kids' WB on September 11, 1999.


  • The series begins with Al waking up one morning. He notices the time that reads 7:00am, and calls Jim to the scene. Both brothers head for the kitchen, where Amanda and Patrick make a debut. After eating breakfast, Al heads to where James, Amy and Mel are. They all explain that this will be the first day ever and Al agrees. Along the way, they encounter a friendly Octopus named Hoop-a-Joop. But however, The Wolfpack make a perfect appearance and claim that Hoop-a-Joop is theirs. Al fights with them and sends them packing. After that, he and his friends welcome Hoop-a-Joop to the pack.

  • (the episode then opens with Al sleeping one morning. An alarm clock wakes him up)
  • Al: What was that!?
  • (He notices an alarm clock that reads 7:00am)
  • Al: Thank goodness i'm up early.
  • (He finds Jim awake)
  • Jim: 7:00am? Cool.
  • Al: Then we're going in.
  • (They both head downstairs to the kitchen, where Amanda and Patrick are waiting)
  • Amanda: Just in time.
  • Patrick: Dinner is served.
  • Al and Jim: Wow.
  • (They both chow down)
  • Al: Tastes good.
  • Jim: Looks like you're gonna have good luck.
  • (Soon, Al has changed to his normal clothes and he is on his way to the school)
  • James: Al, you came.
  • Amy: Thank goodness you're here.
  • Mel: What are you doing?
  • Al: Going to the school.
  • Amy: That's great.
  • James: In fact, i was psyched to go.
  • Mel: Me too.
  • (The Hoop Kids are soon on their way to school)
  • Al: That's what i'm talking about: Lancaster school.
  • Amy: Wow.
  • James: Look at all of these lockers.
  • Mel: And lots of classrooms too.
  • Hank: Let me introduce myself. I'm Coach Hank, and i'll be in charge of the school.
  • Al: I'm Al. These are my friends Amy, James and Mel.
  • Amy: Hey there.
  • James: Pleased to meet you.
  • Mel: It's been a pleasure.
  • (Hank guides The Hoop Kids on a tour)
  • Hank: Here is the cafeteria.
  • Al: I never believed it.
  • Hank: Here's the bathrooms.
  • Amy: Whoa.
  • Hank: Next up is the school theater.
  • James: That's where Mel is performing.
  • Hank: And this is Principal Douglas' office.
  • Mel: He's always in charge.
  • Douglas: Ah, so you're the Hoop Kids. I'm in charge of this office and i'll be looking forward.
  • Al: Why yes.
  • Amy: That'll be great.
  • (That afternoon, on the way home)
  • Al: Man, this school is amazing.
  • Amy: Sounds good.
  • James: Look, it's your house.
  • Mel: Let's go inside.
  • (The Hoop Kids enter Al's house)
  • Al: This is my house.
  • Amy: I live with Alissa and Mary Lambert in my own house.
  • James: I live with Mike and Tommy Rogers.
  • Mel: And i live with Lori, Anna, Stella and Carlos Blake.
  • Al: Well then, i'll meet you tomorrow.
  • Amy, James and Mel: Right.
  • (That night Al dreams about his competition)
  • Announcer: Let's give it a hand to Al.
  • Al: Here i am!
  • (The next morning)
  • Al: I dreamed of winning the competition.
  • Amy: I can hardly remember.
  • James: I wonder if there are octopuses.
  • Mel: Who knows.
  • (a lonely octopus appears)
  • Al: Who is that thing.
  • Amy: Is that an octopus.
  • James: I think he's called Hoop-a-Joop.
  • Mel: That's it. Hoop-a-Joop.
  • (Hoop is happy to see Al and the others)
  • Al: All right then, we're going to welcome you to the pack and...
  • Vin: Hold it.
  • (The Hoop Kids turn around and find The Wolfpack)
  • Mel: Who are you guys?
  • Vin: Let us introduce ourselves. I'm Vin, leader of the pack, and i'm just as average as you are.
  • Sam: I'm Sam, a boy in glasses, and i'm here to help.
  • Erica: My name is Erica and i live with my brother Richie.
  • Jacqueline: The name's Jacqueline, but you can call me Jacq.
  • Flan: I'm Flan and i'm here to do some duty.
  • Dark Onion: And i'm Dark Onion. I may be small, but i'm full of energy.
  • Al: So you're The Wolfpack huh?
  • Vin: Correct. We're here to claim Hoop as ours.
  • Mel: Yeah right, why don't you guys back right off.
  • Erica: Oh yeah!?
  • Sam: You didn't think!
  • Al: All right then, i'll challenge you to a showdown, Vin.
  • Vin: Bring it on!
  • (The scene changes to battle mode)
  • Al and Vin: Let's battle!
  • (They both fight each other while Tetris Attack Boss music plays)
  • (Quite soon)
  • Al: I did it!
  • Vin: Hey no fair!
  • Mel: Too bad you're the ones who should be busted.
  • Sam: I think we'd better retreat.
  • (Erica and the others nod in agreement and they drag a grumpy Vin away)
  • Amy: You did it, Al.
  • James: Way to go.
  • Al: No problem.
  • (Hoop jumps in joy)
  • Al: Well, Hoop, you're welcomed to the pack.
  • (Hoop jumps into Al and cuddles him)
  • Al: That's nice.
  • (Later that night)
  • Al: You know, it's easy to battle The Wolfpack.
  • Jim: That's good.
  • Al: It's time that we're sleeping for now. Good night, Jim.
  • Jim: Good night, Al.
  • (Al turns off the lights and he and Jim both went to sleep)
  • (We view the city at nighttime as the episode concludes)
  • (We then find the outro that has the Group O' Frands photo from DeviantArt in it)
  • (While the end credits roll, What You See Is What You Get from Britney Spears plays)

  • (The Stretch Films Inc. logo appears and the mouth laughs, then the It's A Laugh Productions logo from 2006 appears, with the sound of a lower bouncing ball heard in the background, and the Hanna Barbera Action logo appears, with sounds of a Pterodactyl screeching, a jet whooshing, an elephant trumpeting and a loud gong being heard in the background too. A 60's guitar riff plays throughout the Hanna Barbera logo)
