Scaredy Engines

  • Alec Baldwin: The engines on the Island of Sodor look forward to Halloween. They love Sir Topham Hatt's fireworks and the children dressing up as wizards and witches. They also loved Edward's spooky stories.
  • Edward: They say that on Halloween, the ghost engine returns to the smelters looking for his lost whistle: Whoo, whoo!
  • Engines: Ooh, aah, spooky!
  • Alec Baldwin: The engines said all shivering a little. Later, Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Thomas, Percy and Duck, i have a special job for you. You are to collect some scrap from the smelters yard tonight.
  • Percy: On Halloween!?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Don't worry. You'll be back in time for the fireworks.
  • Thomas: Percy isn't worried about missing the fireworks.
  • Alec Baldwin: Teased Thomas.
  • Thomas: He's a scaredy engine.
  • Percy: I am not!
  • Alec Baldwin: Called Percy. But he was, a little. At the smelters, all Percy could think about was Edward's ghost engine. Thomas knew Percy was scared. So he teased him even more.
  • Thomas: What's that up there.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas squeaked.
  • Thomas: Is it a spook?
  • Percy: It's just a piece of twisted scrap.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy said nervously.
  • Percy: Isn't it?
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas was having fun. He kept on teasing Percy.
  • Thomas: Careful, the ghost engine doesn't get you.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas said.
  • Percy: There's no such thing as ghosts!
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Percy. Duck felt sorry for Percy
  • Duck: Nobody's brave all the time.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Duck.
  • Percy: But i'm not a scaredy engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy insisted. The job was nearly complete.
  • Yard Manager: Well done.
  • Alec Baldwin: The yard manager said.
  • Yard Manager: Now i'll need one engine to finish up.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duck wanted to pay Thomas back for all his teasing.
  • Duck: Please sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Duck: I'm sure Thomas wouldn't mind stay.
  • Thomas: Of course not.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas boasted.
  • Thomas: I'm not a scaredy engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: So Duck and Percy left. When Thomas was by himself, every sound and every shadow was spooky. He was beginning to feel very scared.
  • Thomas: There's no such thing as ghosts.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said nervously.
  • Thomas: Who's there?
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas was so busy looking for ghosts, he didn't watch where he was going. The chains felt like ghost fingers.
  • Thomas: Something's got me.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas wheeshed and set off an old steam whistle.
  • (Old whistle blows)
  • Thomas: The g-g-ghost whistle.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Thomas and he raced away as fast as his wheels could carry him.
  • Thomas: (echoing) The ghost engine is after me!
  • Duck: It was naughty of Thomas to tease you, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Duck.
  • Percy: He was only playing.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Percy.
  • Percy: I hope he hurries up. I wouldn't want him to be late for the fireworks.
  • Thomas: He's after meeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!
  • Duck: I don't think he'll be late.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Duck. Duck and Percy joined the other engines for the fireworks.
  • Percy: Where's Thomas?
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy asked.
  • Percy: He'll miss all the fun.
  • Duck: It would serve him right after all his teasing.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duck said. But Percy was worried. He went to look for his friend. He found Thomas all alone in the shed.
  • Percy: Are you all right, Thomas?
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Thomas: Yes. I'm sorry i teased you, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas said.
  • Thomas: Duck was right. We all feel scared sometimes.
  • Percy: And we all have to say sorry sometimes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said his friend.
  • Percy: So come on, Thomas, we can watch the fireworks just as well from here.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he was right.

Percy and The Haunted Mine

  • Alec Baldwin: In the summertime, the branch line stationmasters enjoy a friendly competition for the most beautiful station on the Island of Sodor. The engines love to help too. One evening Sir Topham Hatt came to the sheds.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want Percy to collect some flower bushes from Lower Tidmouth Station.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: They're at Maithwaithe.
  • Percy: Maithwaithe?
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy said.
  • Percy: Y-y-yes sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: He added nervously. Percy chuffed anxiously through the thickening fog. He doesn't like travelling to Maithwaithe at night. The line passes through a junction next to a spooky old quarry mine. Percy hoped the signal at the junction would be green. He didn't want to stop next to the mine. But the signal was red. He had to stop. Suddenly he saw something.
  • Percy: Bouncing buffers!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy. His driver hadn't seen the old chimney sink into the ground. The signal changed. Percy was so scared, he steamed away as fast as he could. The next day, Percy was telling Donald and Douglas about the disappearing chimney.
  • Donald: It's the naughty gnomes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Teased Donald.
  • Douglas: We fat men with big feet. They make strange things happen.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Douglas.
  • Douglas: It's legend. They steal your wheels and filch your funnels.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy didn't want to believe them, but he wasn't sure. Sir Topham Hatt was waiting for Percy at Dryaw Station.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want you to collect some freight cars from the abandoned mine.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Percy: Y-y-yes sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy answered. But he really didn't want to go there again. Percy hoped he wouldn't see anything else disappear. He slipped into the sidings and buffered up to the freight cars.
  • Percy: Spooky.
  • Alec Baldwin: Stammered Percy. Suddenly, another building at the old mine sank into the ground.
  • Percy's Driver: What was that?
  • Alec Baldwin: Shouted his driver.
  • Percy: Double bouncing buffers!
  • Alec Baldwin: Shrieked Percy. He was so scared, he lurched forward and rammed the freight car.
  • Percy: Naughty gnomes!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy. He steamed away faster than before, all the way back to Lower Tidmouth Station. Percy's driver told Sir Topham Hatt what they had seen.
  • Percy: It's the naughty gnomes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy.
  • Percy: They like to cause trouble. It's legend.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Nonsense.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The old buildings are collapsing at empty mine shafts. That's all.
  • Percy: But i saw the gnomes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Protested Percy.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Of course you did.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Garden gnomes.
  • Percy: Garden gnomes?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: To decorate Lower Tidmouth Station.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sir Topham Hatt said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: They're not scary. Garden gnomes bring good luck.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he ordered Percy to return immediately and get them. Percy was scared, but he knew he had to be responsible. So he carried on.
  • Percy: I'm not scared, i'm not scared.
  • Alec Baldwin: He waited for something else spooky to happen. But it didn't and Sir Topham Hatt was right. The garden gnomes weren't scary at all. His driver and fireman had collected the gnomes and Percy took them straight back to Lower Tidmouth Station. Later that week, the stationmanster thanked Percy.
  • Stationmanster: We wouldn't have won our competition without your garden gnomes, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy was very proud.
  • Percy: You were right, sir, naughty gnomes can be lucky after all.

Haunted Henry

  • Alec Baldwin: It was a moonlit night. Henry was taking a goods train to the station by the lake.
  • (Owl hoots)
  • Edward: Whenever that owl hoots, a mist rolls in.
  • Alec Baldwin: Murmured Edward.
  • Edward: There's a legend that when the mist is about, there's a ghost about too. Take care on the old line, Henry.
  • Henry: Stupid bird!
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Henry.
  • Henry: Owls, mists, ghosts. Edward's going soft to the boiler. There's no mist.
  • Alec Baldwin: But Henry was wrong.
  • Henry: What's that?
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Henry.
  • Henry's Driver: It's an amber lamp.
  • Alec Baldwin: Murmured his driver.
  • Henry's Driver: That means proceed with caution. Who's there?
  • Alec Baldwin: No one replied. Henry crepted slowly forward. He stopped by a tree. It had a sign nailed to it: Beware of The Viaduct. The driver was surprised.
  • Henry's Driver: No one warned us about that before and look, the signal's red and the gates are closed. A-a-and there's a fogman's coat. But where is his owner?
  • Alec Baldwin: Then, they saw a light move within a station building.
  • Henry: G-g-g-g-ghosts!
  • Alec Baldwin: Exclaimed Henry.
  • Henry: Edward was right.
  • Henry's Driver: Something very strange is happening.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said his driver.
  • Henry's Driver: I think it's best we go back.
  • Henry: So do i!
  • Alec Baldwin: Agreed Henry. By morning, the mist had cleared. A workman was talking about the unsafe viaduct.
  • Workman: Lucky you didn't cross it last night.
  • Henry's Driver: Yes, but we don't know who warned us?
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Henry's driver. Later that day, he spoke to Henry.
  • Henry's Driver: The viaduct has been repaired. We can take our train back along the old line tonight.
  • Alec Baldwin: Henry really didn't want to. But when nightfall came, he was sizzling nicely. Suddenly, an owl hooted and then Gordon thundered by.
  • Freight Car: Oh look. Henry's spooked.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said a freight car.
  • (Cars giggling)
  • Henry: Be quiet!
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Henry.
  • Henry: I'm not scared.
  • Alec Baldwin: But he was. A little later, the fog came down. As they approached the same area, they saw the amber light again.
  • Henry's Driver: Here we go.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Henry's driver. Then, unknown to Henry, the gates mysteriously closed by themselves and the signal went red. The freight cars had seen everything and they were spooked.
  • Freight Cars: Faster, faster. There's a ghost about.
  • Henry: Stop, stop!
  • Alec Baldwin: Yelled Henry. A mysterious figure watched Henry go by. Ahead was a landslide blocking the line. Henry braked hard but the freight cars hit some of the rubble and plunged into the ravine.
  • (The cars fall down and crashed towards the ground with a loud Kuh-Thud)
  • Alec Baldwin: Just then, Henry's driver saw a strange sight coming towards them.
  • Henry's Driver: What's that?
  • Alec Baldwin: He said. The fireman laughed.
  • Henry's Fireman: That's our ghost. It's Old Bailey the Fogman.
  • Alec Baldwin: Old Bailey was very cross.
  • Old Bailey: I tired to warn you about the viaduct. Why didn't ye pay attention?
  • Henry's Driver: We're sorry.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied the driver.
  • Henry's Driver: Is there anything we can do to thank you?
  • Old Bailey: I like to operate that old station. If you let me, i promise i wont spook Henry again.
  • Alec Baldwin: And in a little while, Old Bailey's wish was granted.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You and your station will be really useful.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Let's hear a hearty thank you to the friendliest, eh, ghost on the island.
  • Alec Baldwin: Everyone cheered. Especially Henry, who was the happiest of all.

Duncan Gets Spooked

  • Alec Baldwin: The little engines were busy clearing their railroad of leaves and broken branches. Peter Sam and Rusty often work together. One day, Rusty helped Peter Sam to a water tower. Peter Sam felt much better after his long drink, but the freight cars were bored.
  • Freight Cars: Let's break away.
  • Alec Baldwin: Their loads were heavy and the coupling old. One snapped.
  • Freight Cars: Faster, faster!
  • Alec Baldwin: Shouted the freight cars. A sign read: Slow Steep Bends and Ravine Ahead. But the silly freight cars never saw it. Then, it was too late.
  • (The freight cars fall down into the ravine)
  • Alec Baldwin: Peter Sam arrived at the scene of the disaster. His driver sighed.
  • Peter Sam's Driver: This was our fault. We didn't secure them properly. We'll have to get help to pull them out. Sir Topham Hatt will be very annoyed.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he was.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You will work in the yard until i can trust you again.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duncan was delighted with Peter Sam's dilemma.
  • Duncan: Fancy not securing your freight cars on a hill. They'll come back to spook you and your special funnel. Whoooo!
  • Rusty: And who's to say you're not afraid of ghosts!
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Rusty.
  • Duncan: Ghosts!? Things that go bump in the night, Rubbish!
  • Rusty: Well i'll tell you a story that will make your funnel quiver.
  • Alec Baldwin: Rusty said.
  • Rusty: A long time ago, a little engine was returning home. It was a misty moonlight night. Suddenly, the engine lost control and plunged over the side into the swamps below. He was never found again. But many of workmen will tell you that when the moon is full, They had seen the little engine trying to get home. But he never reached the other side. So what did you think of that, Duncan?
  • Duncan: Rubbish!
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Duncan.
  • Rusty: Never mind him, Peter Sam. He'd be frightened if he really saw a ghost.
  • Alec Baldwin: This gave Peter Sam's driver an idea.
  • Peter Sam's Driver: Let's play a trick on Duncan.
  • Alec Baldwin: The next day he spoke to Duncan's driver and fireman who agreed.
  • Duncan's Driver: We'll do it, tonight.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duncan had to take coal cars to the slate mine and then bring cars back. Duncan's driver decided as part of a plan to cross the old iron bridge.
  • Duncan: Haunted bridge, rubbish!
  • Alec Baldwin: Snorted Duncan.
  • Duncan: It's as tame as a pet rabbit's.
  • Alec Baldwin: But all the same, he kept thinking about Rusty's story. When dusk fell, he was keen to leave.
  • Duncan: If we don't go now, Skarloey will take my favorite place in the shed.
  • Duncan's Driver: We have to collect our cars first.
  • Alec Baldwin: His driver replied. He could see the plan was working because Duncan was nervous. When night fell, they set off. The mist were rising around the old iron bridge. Duncan whistled and the sound echoed everywhere. Then, ahead, he saw flickering lights. His driver knew they were only insects that shine brightly at night, but to Duncan they look like an engine. Next, his driver secretly threw a rock from the cab into the ravine below.
  • Duncan: It's the ghost! Take me back! Take me back, please!
  • Alec Baldwin: When Duncan reached the safety of his shed, he closed his eyes tightly.
  • Duncan's Driver: Spooked are you, Duncan?
  • Alec Baldwin: Laughed his driver.
  • Duncan: No! I'm asleep!
  • Alec Baldwin: And Duncan refused to open his eyes. He did though when he thought his driver wasn't looking just to make sure that he was still there.

Percy's Ghostly Trick

  • Percy: And every year on the date of the accident, it runs again as a warning to others, plunging into the gap, shrieking like a lost soul.
  • Thomas: Percy what are you talking about?
  • Percy: The ghost train. Driver saw it last night.
  • Thomas and Toby: Where?
  • George Carlin: Asked Thomas and Toby.
  • Percy: He didn't say, oh it makes my wheels wobble to think of it.
  • Thomas: Pooh!
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: You're just a silly little engine. I'm not scared.
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • Percy: Thomas didn't believe in ghosts.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy next morning. His driver laughed.
  • Percy's Driver: Neither do i. It was only a pretend ghost story.
  • George Carlin: Percy was disappointed. That evening, he came back from the harbour. (Percy's whistle toots, owl hoots) Percy knew where he was, even in the dark.
  • Percy: Crowe's Farm Crossing. We shan't be long now. (Whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: He liked running at night. The rails hummed and the signal light shoned green. But a broken cart load of lime lay ahead. Sam the Farmer had just gone for help.
  • (Percy's whistle toots and a loud crash is heard as he hits the cart)
  • George Carlin: Percy broke the cart to smithereens. Lime flew everywhere. He puffed quickly to the nearest signal box. (Percy's whistle toots) Percy's driver explained what had happened.
  • Signalman: I'll see to it.
  • George Carlin: Said the Signalman.
  • Signalman: But you better clean Percy, or people will think he's a ghost.
  • George Carlin: Percy chuckled.
  • Percy: Do let's pretend I'm a ghost and scared Thomas. That'll teach him to see I'm a silly little engine.
  • George Carlin: Toby promised to help. (Toby's bell rings) Thomas was being oiled up for his evening train.
  • Toby: Percy's had an accident!
  • George Carlin: Cried Toby.
  • Thomas: Poor engine.
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: Botheration! That means I'll be late!
  • Toby: They've cleared the line for you, but there's something worse.
  • Thomas: Out with it, Toby, I can't wait all evening.
  • Toby: I've just seen something.
  • George Carlin: Said Toby.
  • Toby: It looked like Percy's ghost. It said it was coming here to warn us.
  • Thomas: Pooh! Who cares? Don't be frightened, Toby. I'll take care of you.
  • (Percy's whistle toots)
  • Percy: Peep, peep, peep-peep-peep, peep! Let me in, let me in!
  • George Carlin: Wailed Percy.
  • Toby: No, no! Not by the smoke on my chimney chim chim!
  • Percy: I'll chuff and I'll puff and I'll break your door in!
  • Thomas: Oh dear!
  • George Carlin: Explained Thomas.
  • Thomas: It's getting late. Oh, I have no idea. Oh, I must find Annie and Clarabel.
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: It was morning when Thomas returned.
  • Toby: Where have you been?
  • George Carlin: Asked Toby.
  • Thomas: Ah well.
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: I knew you be sad about Percy, and I, um, I didn't like to intrude. I slept in the freight shed and... (Ghostly whistle) Oh, sorry, can't stop. Gotta see a coach about a train.
  • George Carlin: Percy was non a worse for his adventure, and was still enjoying himself enormously. He had heard everything.
  • Percy: Well, well, well! What do you know about that?
  • Toby: Anyone would think...
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Toby.
  • Toby: ...that our Thomas was just seen a ghost!

Thomas, Percy and The Dragon

  • George Carlin: Thomas and Percy are good friends, but sometimes Percy teases Thomas about being frightened and he doesn't like that at all. One evening he was dozing happily in the shed, but Percy wanted to talk.
  • Percy: Wake up, Thomas. Are you dreaming about the time you thought I was a ghost?
  • Thomas: Certainly not. Anyway, I was only pretending to be scared. I knew it was your really.
  • George Carlin: Percy went on teasing him.
  • Percy: I hope the guard leaves the light on for you tonight.
  • Thomas: Why?
  • George Carlin: Asked Thomas.
  • Thomas: I quite like the dark.
  • Percy: Oh really?
  • George Carlin: Explained Percy.
  • Percy: I am surprised. I'd always thought you were afraid of the dark. I wonder why?
  • George Carlin: Thomas decided to say nothing and went to sleep instead. Next day, Sir Topham Hatt came to see him.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I would like you to go to the harbour tonight. You have to collect something rather unusual.
  • Thomas: What sort of something?
  • George Carlin: Asked Thomas.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Wait and see.
  • George Carlin: Replied Sir Topham Hatt. Meanwhile, Percy was moving some freight cars into a siding. Henry arrived with his goods train. The signalman changed the switches and Percy waited on the siding until Henry had steamed by. Then, there was trouble.
  • The Signalman: The switches are jammed.
  • George Carlin: Called the signalman.
  • The Signalman: I can't switch them back for Percy. The workmen will have to mend them in the morning. It's too late now.
  • Percy's Driver: Hmmm.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy's Driver.
  • Percy's Driver: I'm sorry, Percy. But you will have to stay here tonight.
  • Percy: Where are you going?
  • George Carlin: Asked Percy.
  • Percy's Fireman: Home for tea.
  • George Carlin: Replied the fireman. Percy was speechless. He watched as the other engines went home to the shed. Night-time came and Percy began to feel very lonely.
  • Percy: Oh dear.
  • George Carlin: Murmured Percy.
  • Percy: It's very dark.
  • (Owl hoots)
  • Percy: OH! OH! What's that?!
  • George Carlin: It was only an owl, but Percy didn't realize this.
  • Percy: Oh, I wish Thomas was here too.
  • George Carlin: He sighed. Thomas was waiting for his mysterious load at the harbour. Suddenly, there is was.
  • (The Chinese Dragon appears)
  • Thomas: Cinders and Ashes!
  • George Carlin: Cried Thomas.
  • Thomas: It's a dragon!
  • Thomas's Driver: Don't worry.
  • George Carlin: Laughed his driver.
  • Thomas' Driver: This dragon is made of paper. It's for the carnival tomorrow.
  • George Carlin: Workmen lifted the dragon onto Thomas' load loader and put lights all around it for protection. Then, Thomas set off into the misty night. Percy was asleep on his siding and had no idea that Thomas was approaching him. (Thomas and the dragon come up next to Percy) Percy woke up with a start.
  • Percy: Help!
  • George Carlin: Cried Percy.
  • Percy: I'm not going to open my eyes until my driver comes.
  • George Carlin: Next morning the switches were mended and Percy puffed back to the junction. Gordon was just about to leave with the express.
  • Percy: You'll never guess what I saw last night.
  • George Carlin: Gordon was in no mood for puzzles.
  • Gordon: I'm a busy engine. I don't have time for your games.
  • Percy: I've seen a huge dragon. It was covered in lights.
  • George Carlin: Gordon snorted.
  • Gordon: You've been in the sun too long. Your dome has cracked.
  • George Carlin: When the other engines heard the news, they laughed too.
  • James: Look out, Percy!
  • George Carlin: Chuckled James.
  • James: Or the dragon may gobble you up!
  • Percy: No-one believes me.
  • George Carlin: Huffed Percy.
  • Percy: Maybe I did imagine the dragon after all.
  • George Carlin: But Percy soon found out that he hadn't.
  • Percy: Help! Save me!
  • George Carlin: Cried Percy.
  • Thomas: It's alright.
  • George Carlin: Whistled Thomas. And, he explained about the carnival.
  • Thomas: By the way, how was your night out?
  • George Carlin: Percy decided to tell Thomas the truth.
  • Thomas: Well, Percy.
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: Maybe we do get scared sometimes, but if we're not afraid to tell each other, then that means we're quite brave too.
