Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends is a children's television series about the engines and other characters working on the railways of the Island of Sodor, and is based on The Railway Series of books written by Rev. W. Awdry.

This article lists and details episodes from the third season of this series, which was first broadcast in 1991. Some episodes in this season have two titles: the original titles (also known as "UK titles") are unbracketed, while American-adapted titles (also indicated by " - US") are bracketed. Both titles are considered valid, although the original titles are perhaps more correct than the American-adapted titles.

Season 3 was narrated by Michael Angelis, although George Carlin narrates the episodes for American audiences. In current 2010 DVD releases, Alec Baldwin redubs the episodes for American audiences due to George Carlin's death.

A Scarf for Percy

It's winter and Percy wants a scarf to keep warm. Thomas and Henry are doubtful, but Percy continues his idea. Upon sneaking up on coaches in the station, Percy runs into a baggage trolley, and spills clothes and jam everywhere. He gets jam on the people and himself, and gets the Fat Controller's trousers around his funnel. The Fat Controller scolds him, and sends him away. James sees him and teases him, but when Percy comes back to the sheds and gets a wash, Thomas and Henry take pity on him. Percy then learns scarves are not all what they're cracked up to be.

Percy's Promise

Thomas is taking the Vicar's Sunday school to the beach, and Percy promises to take them home. But when the time comes it begins to rain and flood. Percy is doubtful, but remembers his promise. Percy struggles through the rain and wind, but then finds himself stuck in a flood area. Luckily, Harold is near by, and drops supplies for Percy's crew. Percy is able to start up again thanks to the spare wood in the brake van. Percy reaches the station, and gets thanked by the children and Sir Topham Hatt. Percy feels very happy and proud.

Time for Trouble

Gordon has been very busy pulling passengers, so Sir Topham Hatt decides James should do his work while Gordon has a rest. James is delighted, and boasts to Toby about being reliable and clockwork, but Toby doesn't listen. Then Sir Topham Hatt tells Toby he has to go to the Works, but can't take Henrietta. Percy looks after Henrietta, as Toby heads off. On the way, Toby gets low on water, and can't get a drink because a new signalman forbids him to because James was to pull the Express on the same line. Toby heads off, but runs out of water on the line. Luckily Percy comes the other way with Henrietta, so the driver goes back and warns James, who ends up pushing Toby to the next station, much to his chagrin.

  • Featuring Toby, James, Gordon, Percy, Henrietta and Sir Topham Hatt.
