  • (The Thomas Season 7 intro is shown and we begin Thomas and The Special Letter)
  • George Carlin: One evening, Thomas brought his last train to the junction. Percy was glad to see him.
  • Percy: Are you on your way to the big station, Thomas?
  • Thomas: Yes I am. Why?
  • Percy: Because I'm going there too.
  • Thomas: I think something's up.
  • George Carlin: Toby looked up in the sky.
  • Toby: Where?
  • Thomas: Not up there, down here.
  • George Carlin: Laughed Thomas.
  • Toby: How come something be up when it's down?
  • George Carlin: Thomas was too excited to explain.
  • Thomas: Bust my buffers! Look over there!
  • George Carlin: Mavis, BoCo, Bill, Ben, Donald, Oliver and Douglas paraded past.
  • Donald: Good evening, you three.
  • George Carlin: Whistled Donald.
  • Donald: Aren't we all a fine sight?
  • Toby: Very splendid indeed.
  • George Carlin: Admired Toby.
  • Donald: Sorry we can't stop. Sir Topham Hatt wants us all together at the station.
  • Thomas: What is this about?
  • George Carlin: Asked Thomas.
  • Driver: Sir Topham Hatt has a plan.
  • George Carlin: Answered his driver.
  • Driver: Come on.
  • George Carlin: So they followed the other engines to the big station at the end of the line.
  • (Engines whistling)
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Silence!
  • George Carlin: Called Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I have an important letter to read from a little girl who is five years old. Dear Thomas and all the engines, please can I meet you? My friends say they would like to meet you too. You can come to my house for tea, but my mummy says there aren't any railway tracks in my house. Can you come to the station instead? Thank you very much. It seems...
  • George Carlin: Continued Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: ...that there any many girls and boys who would like to meet you. Therefore, we are all going to the big city faraway.
  • Engines: Hooray! Hooray!
  • George Carlin: The engines whistled.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Silence! Other engines will be working here while you were away so please show them what to do.
  • George Carlin: As Annie and Clarabel are going to the big city, Thomas and Oliver practice with some other coaches. Thomas grew more and more excited. Too excited for his own good.
  • Thomas: I'm glad I'm a splendid engine.
  • George Carlin: He puffed.
  • Thomas: Sir Topham Hatt thinks I'm really useful engine. I had a race with Bertie once. I whooshed through the tunnel and stopped in inch from the buffers.
  • George Carlin: Then Thomas made his mistake.
  • Thomas: Just like this!
  • George Carlin: He boasted.
  • (Thomas bursts into the buffers, hits through a fence, rolls down a slope and smashes into a wall)
  • George Carlin: No one was hurt, but Thomas' front was badly bent. They telephoned to Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I'll send up the workmen.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: But if they can't mend Thomas in time, we'll have to go to the big city without him.
  • George Carlin: Poor Thomas. 8:00 next morning, the engines waited at the junction. Toby and Percy reached on the truck, and Duck had pushed them into place behind Edward. Gordon, James and Henry are ready to lead off. They whistled impatiently. Sir Topham Hatt looked at his watch.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I'll wait one more minute for Thomas and then we have to go.
  • Thomas: Oh, thank goodness you're still here.
  • George Carlin: Panted Thomas.
  • Annie and Clarabel: I hope we're not late as it's just after eight.
  • George Carlin: The conductor blew his whistle and waved his flag. The engines cheered.
  • Engines: Look out, big city, here we come!
  • George Carlin: And the cavalcade puffed away. Later at the big city, all the engines were lined up in their splendid shed. Children were delighted to meet their friends.
  • Thomas: I'm glad the little girl wrote to us.
  • George Carlin: Whispered Thomas to Percy.
  • Thomas: Isn't it wonderful what happiness a letter can bring?
  • (A nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Busy Going Backwards)
  • Alec Baldwin: Toad the break van was feeling sad. Everywhere he look, he could see engines and coaches moving steadly forwards. They all look confident and cheerful. One day, he decided to talk to Oliver the Great Western Engine.
  • Toad: I'm always going backwards, Mr. Oliver. I have forward thinking views. I could be a leader if you know what i mean.
  • Gordon: You can't be a leader without a train to follow you. You don't have a train.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon said. Toad felt sadder still. Oliver wanted to help,
  • Oliver: You're a really useful break van, Toad. You help me break and you keep my freight cars in order when we go down hills.
  • Toad: I know, Mr. Oliver, but it'll be so exciting to go forwards for a change instead of always things sliding away from me.
  • Alec Baldwin: The freight cars were cross with Toad.
  • Car 1: Who he to started complaining?
  • Car 2: He's lucky to be look after us.
  • Car 3: Let's teach him a lesson.
  • Alec Baldwin: The freight cars were simply carried up their plan when they reach Gordon's Hill. When they were nearly at the top, they play their tricks.
  • Cars: Ready, steady, go!
  • Alec Baldwin: And they jerked and a coupling which broke.
  • Cars: We're making your wish come true, Toad! Follow the leader!
  • Alec Baldwin: Yelled the freight cars. Toad was still in a state of shock so he didn't know what to think. And he couldn't ask the conductor, he had jumped clear.
  • Cars: Faster, faster, as fast as you want!
  • Alec Baldwin: Screamed the freight cars. Suddenly, Toad found it fun but the fun was soon over. A crossing lay ahead and the gates were closed, Toad couldn't stop. Worst still, Toad now realize he was on the wrong track. There ahead was Gordon! The signalman change the points just in time.
  • Cars: On, on, faster!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried the freight cars. Suddenly, he saw James pulling a long slow train.
  • Toad: Oh, my goodness! Help, save me!
  • Alec Baldwin: A quick thinking shunter did just in time.
  • James: What was that?!
  • Alec Baldwin: Explained James. The signalman warned the stationmaster at the next station.
  • Signalman: There's a runaway coming!
  • Stationmaster: We'll send them into the sidings.
  • Toad: Help, help!
  • Alec Baldwin: Called Toad again. Toad saw some buffers.
  • Toad: Those were stop me.
  • Alec Baldwin: But the points in the buffers weren't safe.
  • Toad: Oh, no! I'm back on the main line!
  • Alec Baldwin: Meanwhile Oliver was racing to the rescue.
  • Oliver: I must catch Toad. I must.
  • Alec Baldwin: Toad sped past Henry. More danger lay ahead. Men were working on the bridge, but they had been warned about the runaway Toad and his freight cars. They diverted him onto old sidings, straight into a muddy pool.
  • (Toad falls into a muddy pool)
  • Toad: Stopped at last.
  • Alec Baldwin: Oliver arrived and when he saw Toad, he can only smile.
  • Oliver: A pond is the only place for a Toad I suppose.
  • Alec Baldwin: That night, Toad spoke to Oliver.
  • Toad: I'm sorry, Mr. Oliver, if I cause to any embarrasment.
  • Oliver: That's all right, Toad. So what do you think of going fowards?
  • Toad: It was fun.
  • Alec Baldwin: Decided Toad.
  • Toad: But from now on, I'd be happy to looking forward to the future, busy going backwards so to speak.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Percy's Chocolate Crunch)
  • Alec Baldwin: Sir Topham Hatt's engines love being shiny and clean. It makes them feel cheerful as they puffed across the Island of Sodor. Percy often has the dirtiest work to do. But he likes to be clean as well as any other engine. Washdowns are important to Percy. But Sir Topham Hatt had bad news.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Due to a water shortage...
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: ...No engine shall have more than one washdown a day. Usefulness before cleanliness.
  • Alec Baldwin: He added and left. Percy was upset.
  • Percy: I get dirty.
  • Alec Baldwin: He complained.
  • Percy: I need washdowns. Gordon only does it to feel important.
  • Gordon: I am important.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon sniffed.
  • Gordon: I'm an express engine.
  • James: You're a poudy puffer, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Teased James.
  • Percy: No, I'm not.
  • Alec Baldwin: Wheeshed Percy and he chuffed away. Percy was loading freight cars at the docks. He was trying extra hard to stay clean. But the troublesome trucks were being naughty. As Percy pushed them under the coal chute, they sang out.
  • Troublesome Trucks: On! On! On!
  • Alec Baldwin: They cried. Percy found himself under the chute and coal dust flew everywhere.
  • Percy: Oh, no. (coughs)
  • Alec Baldwin: Coughed Percy.
  • Percy: I'm filthy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy felt awful, but he knew he had to carry on. On the way to Callan Station, the troublesome trucks teased Percy even more.
  • Troublesome Trucks: Clickety clack, don't look back, dirty Percy's on our track.
  • Percy: Be quiet!
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy snapped. When Percy arrived at Callan Station he was very upset.
  • Percy: From now on I am only doing work where I wont get dirty.
  • Alec Baldwin: Harold the Helicopter was at Callan station picking up medical supplies.
  • Harold: Hello, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: He called. And he took off blowing cinders and ashes everywhere.
  • Percy: Not again!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy.
  • Percy: I want a washdown.
  • Percy's Driver: Usefulness before cleanliness.
  • Alec Baldwin: Reminded his driver.
  • Percy: I want to be useful where I can't get dirty.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy huffed.
  • Percy's Driver: There's a load of sugar going to the chocolate factory.
  • Alec Baldwin: His driver said.
  • Percy's Driver: We can take the sugar cars.
  • Percy: Sugar.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Percy.
  • Percy: That's nice and clean.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy was pleased. Percy didn't know that earlier a leasky freight cars had spilled oil on the track. When he approached the chocolate factory, his driver applied the brakes. But Percy's wheels just skidded on the oily rails.
  • Percy: Oh, no!
  • Alec Baldwin: Hooted Percy.
  • (Percy crashes into the factory and six windows splat themselves as he pops out)
  • Percy: Yuck!
  • Alec Baldwin: He groaned.
  • Percy: I've never been this dirty.
  • Alec Baldwin: He was covered from funnel to firebox in sticky gooey chocolate. Back at the sheds, everyone thought it was very funny.
  • Thomas: You look good enough to eat.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas hooted.
  • James: Bon-bon Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Teased James.
  • Henry: Choc-ice on wheels.
  • Alec Baldwin: Chipped in Henry.
  • Gordon: Disgraceful.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Gordon pompously.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Ahem.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said a stern sounding voice. It was Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You had had a trying day, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Percy: Yes, sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Percy from beneath the chocolate.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: But you showed us all that usefulness does come before cleanliness. So...
  • Alec Baldwin: He added.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You shall have your washdown.
  • Percy: Oh, sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: And a new coat of paint.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy just beamed.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Special Funnel)
  • George Carlin: It was winter on the Island of Sodor. Peter Sam puffed nervously along the line. His funnel had never been the same since his accident with some cars. Now the biting wind was trying to blow it away.
  • Peter Sam: My funnel feels wobbly.
  • George Carlin: He complained.
  • Peter Sam: I wish manager would hurry up with my new one. He says it would be something special.
  • Engines: You and your special funnel.
  • George Carlin: Laughed the other engines. The were fun to Peter Sam, but his special funnel had become quite a joke. The winter wind grew worse. The rain came too turning hillside streams into torrents which threatened to wash the line away. Rusty the Little Diesel worked hard carrying workmen up and down the line. They were removing branches and trees so water could flow away. But one morning, Rusty's driver brought bad news.
  • Rusty's Driver: There's been a washout near the tunnel. The track bed had been swept away. We must repait the damage inmediately.
  • George Carlin: The important work took longer than it expected. As days went by, the weather changed. It became frosty and much colder. The workmen finished at last. Peter Sam was most careful as he took the morning train over the mended piece of track. Soon, he approached the tunnel. It was short and curved so his driver could not see right through it. Peter Sam was heading for trouble.
  • Peter Sam's Driver: There's something hanging from the roof.
  • George Carlin: Shouted his driver. Peter Sam came out of the tunnel a different looking engine. He no longer had his funnel.
  • Conductor: Here's what hit you, Peter Sam.
  • George Carlin: Called the conductor and he produced a think cold icicle. They set off again. But without his funnel, the journey was very difficult. Then the fireman saw an old drain pipe lying beside the track.
  • Peter Sam's Fireman: We'll use that instead of your funnel. At least it'll help control the smoke.
  • George Carlin: Peter Sam finished his journey with the drain pipe wired to his boiler. The other engines laughed and Sir Handel sang a song about.
  • Sir Handel: (singing) Peter Sam said again and again, his new funnel will put ours to shame, went into a tunnel and lost his old funnel now his famous new funnel's a drain.
  • George Carlin: The teasing continue until at last the day came when his new funnel arrived. Sir Topham Hatt proudly presented it.
  • Peter Sam: Oh dear, someone squashed it.
  • George Carlin: Said Peter Sam. But Sir Topham Hatt laughed.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Don't worry, Peter Sam, this funnel is something special indeed. You'll soon see.
  • George Carlin: Peter Sam's new funnel had special pipes which made puffing much easier.
  • Peter Sam: I feel stronger than ever before.
  • George Carlin: He hummed. Even Sir Handel was impressed.
  • Sir Handel: I can't understand it. Peter Sam just seems to stroll along the line. He makes work look so easy.
  • George Carlin: The engines don't laugh at Peter Sam's funnel now. They wished they had one like it.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin James and The Trouble With Trees)
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas the Tank Engine had been working in the coal yards all day. The little blue engine was covered in coal dust.
  • Thomas' Driver: We can't clean you up tonight, Thomas.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said his driver.
  • Thomas' Driver: There's a problem with the hose pipe.
  • Thomas: Bother!
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: A bath would make me feel much better. The others are sure to say I look silly.
  • Alec Baldwin: But the engines were too busy arguing to notice Thomas. James was talking loudest of all.
  • James: I deserve a new coat of paint. Sir Topham Hatt says I'm the pride of the line and...
  • Henry: Rubbish!
  • Alec Baldwin: Huffed Henry.
  • Henry: We're all the pride of the line.
  • Percy: It's been like this all day.
  • Alec Baldwin: Confided Percy to Thomas.
  • Percy: James is getting a new coat of paint and won't stop boasting about it.
  • Thomas: Why, James! I'm the one who needs a new coat. Look at me.
  • James: I rather not.
  • Alec Baldwin: Retorted James.
  • James: You're not a pleasant sight and wouldn't understand that needs of a really important engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas was fuming. Next morning as James was being repainted, Henry had an accident.
  • (Henry causes the cars to derail)
  • James: If you can't push cars properly, Henry, why not talk to a tree instead. You know how much you like the forest.
  • Henry: As a matter of fact, bossy boiler, Sir Topham Hatt is inspecting the island for trees that have fallen too close to the line. He's worried that might cause trouble.
  • James: Pah!
  • Alec Baldwin: Laughed James.
  • James: If I came upon a tree i just push it aside.
  • Henry: Really!?
  • Alec Baldwin: Henry replied. Soon, James was showing off his paintwork.
  • James: Make way for an important engine.
  • Percy: You wouldn't feel important if one of those trees crashed on you. You feel hurt.
  • Alec Baldwin: Reproached Percy.
  • James: Rubbish! It wouldn't dare!
  • Terence: You should be careful, James. Trees can be just as powerful as engines.
  • Alec Baldwin: Adviced Terence.
  • James: Oh please! Now excuse me, Sir Topham Hatt needs me to pull the express.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he huffed away. But James was wrong.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You must go to the yards and collect an important goods train James. It's heavy so be careful.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • James: But, sir, I've just been repainted. Can't Thomas and Percy do it? They're dirty and like working with freight cars.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Really useful engines don't argue.
  • Alec Baldwin: So James didn't. By the time he arrived at the yards, the weather was changed for the worse.
  • Freight Car: Your color's nice, James. Pity about your face though.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said a freight car. James ignored them and set off. Soon they came to a hill and his driver knew they were in for a dificult time. An old tree close to the tracks was being blown by the strong winds and the rain had weakened the slope. All of a sudden, the tree moved.
  • (James sees the tree ahead and comes to a halt)
  • James: Oh help!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried James.
  • James: Go away!
  • Alec Baldwin: But of course, the tree couldn't. James tried to reverse away from the tree but his train was too heavy. Then he heard a whistle.
  • James' Driver: It's Thomas.
  • Alec Baldwin: Called his driver. James felt embarrased and worried that Thomas would laugh at him, but Thomas didn't. He knew it was no time for teasing.
  • Thomas: Peep, peep! I'm ready!
  • Alec Baldwin: Whistled Thomas.
  • James: So am I.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied James.
  • James: As ready as I'll ever be.
  • Alec Baldwin: They were just in time.
  • (The tree lands on the ground with a loud wham!)
  • Alec Baldwin: Later, James spoke to Thomas.
  • James: Percy and Terence were so right to warn me. Thank you for rescuing me, Thomas.
  • Thomas: Oh, that's all right. We engines have to pull together whatever the weather.
  • Alec Baldwin: Just then, Edward bustled in.
  • Edward: Sir Topham Hatt thinks you're both brave engines. Thomas, you're going to have a new coat of paint, and James, Sir Topham Hatt says that tomorrow you'll pull the special express.
  • Alec Baldwin: Everyone was very happy.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Dunkin' Duncan)
  • Alec Baldwin: Rusty, Rheneas and Skarloey chugged cheerfully through the Sodor countryside. The engines were going to help Duncan with an important job at the incline railway. The engines enjoyed working at the incline railway. They like the way the loaded slate cars rolled down the incline pulling the empty slate cars up. But they are always careful. Duncan doesn't like working at the incline railway. He is always impatient to get back at the junction. This makes him careless and gets him in a lot of trouble. Rusty hoped Duncan would stay out of trouble today, but he was already in too much of a hurry.
  • Duncan: I'm a plain speaking engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gruffed Duncan.
  • Duncan: So collect your slate cars and be quick about it.
  • Alec Baldwin: And off he steamed.
  • Rheneas: Bossy boots.
  • Alec Baldwin: Chuffed Rheneas.
  • Skarloey: Pushy puffer.
  • Alec Baldwin: Huffed Skarloey. They didn't like Duncan telling them what to do.
  • Rusty: He just wants to get back to the bustle of the junction.
  • Alec Baldwin: Rusty said. Duncan wanted everyone to work faster.
  • Duncan: You're supposed to be helping me.
  • Alec Baldwin: He grumbled.
  • Duncan: But you're as slow as snails.
  • Rusty: We're proper engines.
  • Alec Baldwin: Rusty huffed crossly.
  • Rusty: We followed the rules.
  • Rheneas: We can't send up more than four slate cars at a time.
  • Alec Baldwin: Chuffed Rheneas.
  • Duncan: Then work faster.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Duncan impatiently. Later that day, Duncan was working at the incline.
  • Duncan: I'll show you how fast a really useful engine can work.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duncan called as he hastily biffed one slate car into another and then another. Soon, Duncan had his four slate cars.
  • Duncan: Nothing to it!
  • Alec Baldwin: He boasted to Rusty.
  • Rusty: Those slate cars will pay you back.
  • Alec Baldwin: Warned Rusty.
  • Rusty: Slate cars don't like to be biffed.
  • Duncan: I can handle slate cars.
  • Alec Baldwin: He cried. The three little engines could see Duncan was not going to listen. They carefully chuffed away from the incline with their slate cars full of slate. Duncan was so impatient he became even more careless.
  • Duncan: I'll show that smelly diesel and those lazy steamers.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said to his driver.
  • Duncan's Driver: Careful.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cautioned his driver.
  • Duncan's Driver: You're asking for trouble.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he got it. Duncan didn't notice his chain was tangled in the coupling of the slate car in front of him. Suddenly, he was being pulled up the track by the empty slate cars.
  • Duncan: Bouncing bogies!
  • Alec Baldwin: He cried.
  • Duncan: It's got me!
  • Alec Baldwin: Duncan's driver jumped clear. Rusty returned to see Duncan being pulled up the incline.
  • Rusty: I tried to warn him.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Rusty.
  • Rusty's Driver: He never listens.
  • Alec Baldwin: The little diesel's driver said. The chain pulling Duncan's slate cars couldn't hold the weight. It suddenly snapped. Duncan plummeted down the incline.
  • Duncan: Help!
  • Alec Baldwin: He yelled.
  • (Duncan falls into a pond)
  • Duncan: Glub, glub, glub.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Duncan: Bluggle my bloiler.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duncan felt foolish and very wet. When Sir Topham Hatt arrived, he spoke severly to Duncan.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You have not been a responsible engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Your impatience has caused confusion and delay and you owe these engines in apology.
  • Duncan: Sorry.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duncan said to Rusty, Rheneas and Skarloey.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Once you have been repaired.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sir Topham Hatt said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You will work at the incline until you learned to be patient and careful.
  • Duncan: Yes, sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Duncan.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Bad Day At Castle Loch)
  • Michael Brandon: It was a beautiful day on the Island of Sodor. Donald and Douglas are Scottish twins. They enjoy working on Sir Topham Hatt's railway. But sometimes, they longed for Scotland, their old home. One day, Sir Topham Hatt called them to the docks.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Lord Callan's castle was finally reopening. There is to be a grand celebration tomorrow. I need you to take the banners, buntings and bagpipes to the castle. Harvey, you must load them straight away.
  • Harvey: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Harvey. The twins were excited. Going to Lord Callan's castle would be like going home again. Soon, Harvey had finished loading the freight.
  • Percy: Where are you going?
  • Michael Brandon: Asked Percy.
  • Donald: Lord Callan's castle.
  • Michael Brandon: Donald proudly announced.
  • Harvey: By Castle Loch.
  • Percy: I'm glad I'm not going to Castle Loch.
  • Michael Brandon: Wheeshed Percy nervously.
  • Douglas: Scared the monster might get ya.
  • Michael Brandon: Teased Douglas.
  • Donald: You might.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Donald.
  • Douglas: There's no monster.
  • Donald: There is too.
  • Douglas: There is not.
  • Donald: It's too.
  • Douglas: It's not.
  • Donald: It's too.
  • Michael Brandon: Lord Callan's castle is in Misty Valley. Donald and Douglas were determined to get the important goods to the castle in time. They puffed proudly along the loch towards their destination.
  • Donald: There it is!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Donald.
  • Douglas: We're almost there!
  • Michael Brandon: Shouted Douglas. But there was trouble ahead, trees had fallen across the line. Donald and Douglas stopped just in time. Then, suddenly, there was a loud crash. The break van had been hit by the landslide and come off the rails. They were stuck.
  • Donald's Driver: We could take the causeway.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Donald's Driver. Douglas' Driver knew the causeway was old and rickety.
  • Douglas' Driver: It's too dangerous.
  • Michael Brandon: He said. The twins were worried.
  • Donald: We'll never get to the castle now.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Donald.
  • Donald's Driver: I'll call for help.
  • Tailor: Splendid outfit, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Sir Topham Hatt was trying on his present for Lord Callan when he heard the news.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Donald and Douglas trapped by the loch?
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I'll send help as soon as i can.
  • Michael Brandon: But the hours passed. It grew dark and cold and still no help had come. Suddenly, the twins spotted something strange through the mist.
  • Donald: What's that!?
  • Michael Brandon: Called Donald.
  • Douglas: Is it the monster!?
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Douglas.
  • Donald: For sure it is.
  • Michael Brandon: Answered Donald.
  • Harvey: It's not a monster, it's us.
  • Michael Brandon: It was Harvey and the breakdown crane. Donald and Douglas were relieved. By morning, the lines were cleared. Donald and Douglas hurried off to the castle. Lord Callan's workers were waiting to unload the freight cars. Soon, the castle was decorated. The grand opening was a great success. Lord Callan was pleased.
  • Lord Callan: A splendid pair of engines.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: And very useful.
  • Michael Brandon: Added Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Donald and Douglas: Och aye!
  • Michael Brandon: Agreed the twins.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Elizabeth The Vintage Quarry Truck)
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas the Tank Engine enjoys taking specials. Today, he was bringing a special to Brendam Docks. His load was to go onto the cargo ship. The ship was scheduled to depart at sundown. Thomas had to get to the docks before then. But the load was very heavy. So Thomas puffed as hard as he could. He pulled so hard he broke his coupling rods. He wasn't going anywhere.
  • Thomas: Oh, dear!
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas said.
  • Thomas: I'll be late.
  • Alec Baldwin: His driver saw an old shed near the track.
  • Driver: If there's a telephone in there i could call for help.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Thomas: Hurry.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: And be careful. It looks spooky.
  • Alec Baldwin: Then a voice boomed from inside the shed.
  • Elizabeth: Do you mind? I'm trying to sleep.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas hoped it wasn't a ghost, then his driver appeared.
  • Thomas: Is it a ghost?
  • Alec Baldwin: Asked Thomas nervously.
  • Driver: It's a surprise.
  • Alec Baldwin: His driver teased. Then the fireman took some of Thomas' coal and headed off to the shed.
  • Driver: She can get us to the fitter's yard.
  • Alec Baldwin: His driver said.
  • Fireman: If her boiler holds.
  • Alec Baldwin: Added the fireman anxiously.
  • Thomas: What kind of surprise is that?
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas wondered.
  • Driver: Thomas, meet Elizabeth.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said his driver. At last the doors opened and out chuffed a dirty grimy steam truck.
  • Elizabeth: So you're the little puffer that's broken down.
  • Alec Baldwin: She sniffed. Thomas was cross.
  • Thomas: And you're just an old steam truck.
  • Alec Baldwin: He retorted.
  • Elizabeth: That would be vintage steam truck.
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Elizabeth.
  • Elizabeth: And I haven't much time for your coupling rods.
  • Alec Baldwin: The driver was concerned. Elizabeth was making awful grinding sounds.
  • Driver: She's not built for hills.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said anxiously.
  • Driver: You're losing steam.
  • Alec Baldwin: He called.
  • Elizabeth: Just catching my breath.
  • Alec Baldwin: Elizabeth chuffed. And finally, she made it. When Elizabeth returned with Thomas' coupling rods, she was pleased with herself.
  • Elizabeth: And next time don't be so careless.
  • Alec Baldwin: She scolded. Thomas thought Elizabeth was the rudest truck he ever met. But he was happy to get his new coupling rods. Thomas made it to the docks just in time.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: What took you so long?
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt. Thomas told him about his broken coupling rods. He wanted to tell how rude Elizabeth was when she rolled up.
  • Elizabeth: Oh, it's you.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Elizabeth looking down at Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Elizabeth: Have you learned to drive properly yet.
  • Thomas: She's in trouble now.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas said to his driver.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Elizabeth.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt fountly.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: My first truck. I thought you have been lost.
  • Alec Baldwin: They were old friends. It was too much for Thomas. Then Elizabeth told Sir Topham Hatt how she'd been left in the shed for years. Sir Topham Hatt had been so pleased Elizabeth had been found. He asked Jem Cole to restore her to her original beauty. And soon Elizabeth had a rich dark color with gleaming coach works.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You're the grandest truck in the whole railway.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sir Topham Hatt said.
  • Elizabeth: I know.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Elizabeth even more proudly. And Thomas had to agreed she did look grand.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Percy and The Haunted Mine)
  • Alec Baldwin: In the summertime, the branch line stationmasters enjoy a friendly competition for the most beautiful station on the Island of Sodor. The engines love to help too. One evening Sir Topham Hatt came to the sheds.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want Percy to collect some flower bushes from Lower Tidmouth Station.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: They're at Maithwaithe.
  • Percy: Maithwaithe?
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy said.
  • Percy: Y-y-yes sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: He added nervously. Percy chuffed anxiously through the thickening fog. He doesn't like travelling to Maithwaithe at night. The line passes through a junction next to a spooky old quarry mine. Percy hoped the signal at the junction would be green. He didn't want to stop next to the mine. But the signal was red. He had to stop. Suddenly he saw something.
  • Percy: Bouncing buffers!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy. His driver hadn't seen the old chimney sink into the ground. The signal changed. Percy was so scared, he steamed away as fast as he could. The next day, Percy was telling Donald and Douglas about the disappearing chimney.
  • Donald: It's the naughty gnomes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Teased Donald.
  • Douglas: We fat men with big feet. They make strange things happen.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Douglas.
  • Douglas: It's legend. They steal your wheels and filch your funnels.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy didn't want to believe them, but he wasn't sure. Sir Topham Hatt was waiting for Percy at Dryaw Station.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want you to collect some freight cars from the abandoned mine.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Percy: Y-y-yes sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy answered. But he really didn't want to go there again. Percy hoped he wouldn't see anything else disappear. He slipped into the sidings and buffered up to the freight cars.
  • Percy: Spooky.
  • Alec Baldwin: Stammered Percy. Suddenly, another building at the old mine sank into the ground.
  • Percy's Driver: What was that?!
  • Alec Baldwin: Shouted his driver.
  • Percy: Double bouncing buffers!
  • Alec Baldwin: Shrieked Percy. He was so scared, he lurched forward and rammed the freight car.
  • Percy: Naughty gnomes!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy. He steamed away faster than before, all the way back to Lower Tidmouth Station. Percy's driver told Sir Topham Hatt what they had seen.
  • Percy: It's the naughty gnomes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy.
  • Percy: They like to cause trouble. It's legend.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Nonsense.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The old buildings are collapsing at empty mine shafts. That's all.
  • Percy: But I saw the gnomes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Protested Percy.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Of course you did.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Garden gnomes.
  • Percy: Garden gnomes?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: To decorate Lower Tidmouth Station.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sir Topham Hatt said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: They're not scary. Garden gnomes bring good luck.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he ordered Percy to return immediately and get them. Percy was scared, but he knew he had to be responsible. So he carried on.
  • Percy: I'm not scared, I'm not scared.
  • Alec Baldwin: He waited for something else spooky to happen. But it didn't and Sir Topham Hatt was right. The garden gnomes weren't scary at all. His driver and fireman had collected the gnomes and Percy took them straight back to Lower Tidmouth Station. Later that week, the stationmanster thanked Percy.
  • Stationmanster: We wouldn't have won our competition without your garden gnomes, Percy.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy was very proud.
  • Percy: You were right, sir, naughty gnomes can be lucky after all.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Edward The Really Useful Engine)
  • Alec Baldwin: The engines on the Island of Sodor are good at different things. Gordon is a very good express, Percy is good at carrying the mail and when Edward is not hauling freight cars, he is very good at being a back engine. When engines have heavy loads, Edward buffers up behind and helps push. But Edward is old. Some engines think this makes him unreliable.
  • Gordon: Edward is a useless old steam-pot.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon sniffed.
  • Gordon: He should be retired.
  • Percy: But he doesn't have tires.
  • Alec Baldwin: Percy said.
  • Thomas: Retired.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: Means taken out of service.
  • Gordon: And not a moment too soon.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Gordon. And the other big engines agreed with him, but Percy was very upset. Later, his driver asked him why he looked so glum. Percy told him about Edward.
  • Percy: The big engines don't think he's useful anymore.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said. Percy's driver saw Sir Topham Hatt and told him what Percy had said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I will attend to the matter immediately.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt. Sir Topham Hatt had a plan.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The new loop line is completed.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said to Edward.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want you to teach Stepney how to run it properly.
  • Edward: But sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: He asked.
  • Edward: Who will look after the freight cars?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Duck will do your work.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sir Topham Hatt replied. When the other engines heard Duck was going to help them, they were pleased.
  • Henry: Duck is very reliable.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Henry.
  • Gordon: It makes no difference to me.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Gordon pompously.
  • Gordon: I don't need a back engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he wheeshed away. Edward enjoyed working with Stepney. It was great fun delivering passengers to stations in the beautiful countryside. But Duck was not happy. The trucks were playing their silly games.
  • Troublesome Trucks: (singing) Duck should play with other ducks cause he's no good at pulling trucks. Quack, quack, quack, quack. Hold back, hold back.
  • Alec Baldwin: They giggled. Duck found himself going slower, and slower, and slower. Halfway up Gordon's Hill, his wheels stopped all together. Duck was stuck.
  • Duck's Driver: Oh, no.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said his driver.
  • Duck's Driver: This is Gordon's line.
  • Alec Baldwin: Duck's guard phoned the signalman to warn him.
  • Signalman: It's too late to switch Gordon to the middle line.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said the signalman.
  • Signalman: You'll have to flag him down.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon saw the guard.
  • Gordon: If i stop on this hill, i'll never get started again.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said crossly and he buffered up to Duck. Gordon tried to set off again, but his wheels spun and spun.
  • Gordon's Driver: It's no use. We need a back engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said the driver.
  • Gordon's Driver: I'll send for Edward.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon was cross. Edward was excited. He was going to be a back engine for two trains. Edward cheerfully buffered up and the strange train set off. They chuffed gently into the station.
  • Boy: Look at that!
  • Alec Baldwin: Laughed a boy.
  • Boy: The back engine must be the strongest and the best.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon was embarrassed. Sir Topham Hatt spoke severly to Gordon.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You have set rude things about Edward. He proved today that he is useful reliable and very helpful.
  • Alec Baldwin: Gordon felt very ashamed. The next morning, Gordon apologized.
  • Gordon: Thank you for helping me Edward.
  • Alec Baldwin: Puffed Gordon.
  • Gordon: You really are a useful engine.
  • Edward: It's good to be back.
  • Alec Baldwin: Edward chuffed happily. Sir Topham Hatt's plan had worked. There was no more talk about Edward retiring.
