  • Michael Brandon: Thomas and Skarloey's Big Day Out. It was a beautiful bright summer on the Island of Sodor. Thomas the Tank Engine was taking passengers to the seaside. In the summer holidays, Thomas went there nearly every day. One morning, Sir Topham Hatt came to see Thomas.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I have an important special for you.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I need you to take some steel pipes to the wharf.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas was delighted. There were lots to sights to see on the way to the wharf. First, Thomas pass the Scottish castle. Next, he went to Shen Valley. And finally, he looked at the wonderful view from the top of Gordon's Hill. But when Thomas arrived at the wharf, he saw Skarloey. Skarloey looked very sad. He had broken down.
  • Skarloey: There's no one to take me to the repairers yards.
  • Michael Brandon: Skarloey chuffed.
  • Thomas: Maybe I can take you.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas.
  • Thomas: Please, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas asked the Narrow Gauge Controller.
  • Thomas: Can I take Skarloey to the repairers?
  • Mr. Percival: Skarloey is very heavy.
  • Michael Brandon: Said the Narrow Gauge Controller.
  • Thomas: I'm sure I can pull him.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas.
  • Thomas: And I finished all my other jobs.
  • Mr. Percival: Very well.
  • Michael Brandon: Said the Narrow Gauge Controller.
  • Mr. Percival: But you must go straight there.
  • Thomas: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Thomas.
  • Mr. Percival: The coupling on that flatbed is old, so take care.
  • Michael Brandon: He added. So Skarloey was loaded on the flatbed. Skarloey was sad.
  • Skarloey: I don't like going to the repairers.
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed. Thomas wanted to cheer Skarloey up.
  • Thomas: I'll show you some wonderful new sights. Sights you never see in the mountains.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Thomas cheerfully.
  • Thomas: This will be your big day out.
  • Michael Brandon: And Thomas puffed away pulling his friend carefully behind him. So, Thomas didn't take Skarloey straight to the repairers. He puffed through the farms and forests. Until they arrived at the Scottish Castle.
  • Thomas: There.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas proudly.
  • Thomas: Isn't it wonderful?
  • Skarloey: It's very nice.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Skarloey.
  • Skarloey: But we have a castle at the mountains.
  • Thomas: Then I'll show you Shen Valley.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas. Thomas and Skarloey puff through the flowerly fields and the green meadows of Shen Valley.
  • Thomas: There.
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Thomas grandly.
  • Skarloey: It's very nice.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Skarloey.
  • Skarloey: But we have green valleys in the mountains.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas felt sad. He wanted Skarloey to have a big day out. He had to find something Skarloey had never seen before.
  • Thomas: I know.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas.
  • Thomas: I'll show you from the view from the top of Gordon's Hill.
  • Michael Brandon: So Thomas huff and puff up Gordon's Hill. Skarloey was very heavy. The old flatbed coupling creek and groan. But still, Thomas huff and chuff as hard as he could. Then, there was trouble. Just as he got to the top of the hill, the coupling came loose and Skarloey rolled backwards.
  • Skarloey: Help!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Skarloey, but it was too late. Skarloey's flatbed biffed into the sidings and came off the track.
  • Thomas: Oh, no!
  • Michael Brandon: Moaned Thomas.
  • Thomas: The Narrow Gauge Controller told me to go straight to the repairers yard. But I wanted to give you a big day out. Now look what's happened.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas was very unhappy. So Thomas' driver coupled them up again to the flatbed. Thomas pulled Skarloey and the flatbed carefully back onto the tracks and they set off to the repairers yard. Thomas' didn't try to show Skarloey anymore sights. He puffed as fast as he could to do his job. The fastest way to the repairers yard was the track by the seaside. Thomas had to stop at a signal. Skarloey looked out at the sea in the sun. They were sandcastles, donkey rides and children eating ice cream. It looked marvelous.
  • Skarloey: It's wonderful!
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Skarloey.
  • Skarloey: I've never seen anything like that before.
  • Michael Brandon: Skarloey was so excited it made his axles tingle. Thomas was surprised and delighted.
  • Thomas: I see the beach almost every day.
  • Michael Brandon: He tooted happily. Thomas took Skarloey to the repairers.
  • Thomas: I'll wait and take you back.
  • Michael Brandon: Tooted Thomas.
  • Skarloey: Thank you.
  • Michael Brandon: Wheeshed Skarloey. When he was repaired, Thomas took Skarloey to look at the beach once again.
  • Skarloey: This is the best big day out ever!
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Skarloey. Thomas was delighted.
