  • Michael Brandon: Thomas and The Birthday Mail. It was the stormy season on the Island of Sodor. All the characters were battling against the bad weather. Thomas was busy taking mail to a far part of the island. He really enjoyed going up to High Farm. A little girl named Alice lived there. Alice and Thomas were good friends. One day, Thomas was on his way to High Farm when Rosie stopped beside him. Rosie was a cheerful chirpy little tank engine. She was always pleased to see Thomas. She liked him so much that she wanted to be just like... So she tried to copy him. She tried to wheesh the way he did. She even tried to whistle like Thomas. It made Thomas cross.
  • Rosie: Hello, Thomas.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Rosie brightly.
  • Rosie: What are you doing?
  • Thomas: It's Alice's birthday.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Thomas.
  • Thomas: I want to get all her presents up to High Farm in good time.
  • Michael Brandon: Just then, Harold the Helicopter arrived.
  • Harold: Another storm warning I'm afraid.
  • Michael Brandon: He shouted.
  • Harold: High winds on the way and heavy rain.
  • Michael Brandon: Harold warned Thomas not to go up to High Farm.
  • Harold: Heavy rain could cause landslides on that hilly route.
  • Michael Brandon: He said. And Harold flew away. Thomas didn't want to let Alice down.
  • Thomas: High winds don't bother me.
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed.
  • Rosie: Or me.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Rosie.
  • Rosie: I'll come as your back engine.
  • Michael Brandon: But Thomas didn't want Rosie to come.
  • Thomas: No thank you, Rosie.
  • Michael Brandon: He huffed firmly.
  • Thomas: I can do it on my own.
  • Michael Brandon: And he chuffed quickly away. But Rosie liked Thomas very much and she wanted to help. So she chuffed naughtily after him. Thomas puffed along the line to High Farm. The sky grew darker and darker. Soon it was pouring with rain. Thomas' pistons pumped and his boiler bubbled. It was hard work.
  • Thomas: Rosie can't follow me now.
  • Michael Brandon: He thought.
  • Thomas: She isn't strong enough.
  • Michael Brandon: But Thomas was wrong. Rosie's pistons were pumping and her boiler was bubbling right behind him. She whistled cheerfully to Thomas. Thomas was very annoying.
  • Thomas: Bother!
  • Michael Brandon: He huffed. Soon, Thomas came to a junction. One way was the long, but easy way to High Farm. The other way was the shorter, but much harder way. Thomas knew that the longer way was safer.
  • Thomas: But I'll take the short way.
  • Michael Brandon: He wheeshed.
  • Thomas: Then Rosie won't follow me. She not strong enough.
  • Michael Brandon: As the storm raged, Thomas puffed through up the steep path. Thomas was almost at High Farm. He was sure Rosie wasn't behind him now.
  • Thomas: I won't be seeing anymore of her today.
  • Michael Brandon: Tooted Thomas happily. Then there was trouble. Earth and stones tumbled down the bank and blocked Thomas' track.
  • Thomas: Cinders and Ashes!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Thomas. But he still wanted to delivered Alice's presents.
  • Thomas: I'll just have to bash my way through.
  • Michael Brandon: Thought Thomas. And he pushed forward into the landslide. Thomas was up to his buffers in mud and stone. He tried to push on.
  • (Thomas groans)
  • Michael Brandon: But he couldn't. He tried to back out, but he couldn't. Thomas was stuck. Thomas felt silly and very sad.
  • Thomas: I should have listened to Harold.
  • Michael Brandon: He wheeshed unhappily.
  • Thomas: Now Alice won't get her presents on time. I've let her down.
  • Michael Brandon: He thought sadly. Then, he heard the toot of another engine. It was Rosie puffing up the hill behind him.
  • Rosie: It's meeeeeeeeeeeee!
  • Michael Brandon: Tooted Rosie cheerfully. Then she saw Thomas was stuck. Thomas felt silly.
  • Rosie: I'll go and get help.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Rosie.
  • Thomas: Wait a minute.
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Thomas.
  • Thomas: Please, will you deliver Alice's presents for me?
  • Michael Brandon: Rosie was very happy.
  • Rosie: Of course I will.
  • Michael Brandon: She puffed. Rosie was soon coupled up to Thomas' freight cars. Then, she steamed off to High Farm. Thomas waited for Rosie to come back. He was happy she had followed him after all. Soon Rosie came puffing back down the line.
  • Rosie: Alice's mother has telephoned for help.
  • Michael Brandon: Rosie told Thomas.
  • Rosie: Edward is on his way to pull you out.
  • Michael Brandon: Then Thomas noticed Rosie had a passenger on board. It was Alice. She had come to thank Thomas for getting her birthday presents to her.
  • Thomas: I couldn't have done it without Rosie's help.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas puffed.
  • Thomas: Now, we can all celebrate your birthday together.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas tooted happily, and so did Rosie.
