  • (BABY CRYING)
  • Narrator: It was a busy morning at Knapford Station. Thomas Annie and Clarabel had one last journey to make before they could take a break. 
  • Annie: Oh My! What a racket, Clarabel!
  • Clarabel: I know, Annie! but at least they aren't trying to get on board.
  • Thomas: (LAUGHS) I didn't know something so small could make so much noise. 
  • Narrator: But the mother and baby did want to travel on Thomas's branch line. 
  • Annie: Oh! I don't think babies like trains.
  • (BLOWS WHISLTE)
  • Clarabel: I'm not looking forward to this journey, at all. 
  • (BABY CONTINUES CRYING)
  • Narrator: But as soon as Thomas got on his way, the baby stopped crying.
  • Annie: Oh. the poor thing, it was probably just tired. I think it likes me, Clarabel. (LAUGHS)
  • Clarabel: I'm good with children, too (LAUGHS)
  • Thomas: Don't Forget who's pulling you, maybe it's me the baby likes!
  • Narrator: Whatever has stopped the baby crying, didn't last long. 
  • (TOOTING)
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • Bertie: Oh, Why are you Crying. Thomas? Have you Lost Another Race?
  • (CHUCKLES)
  • Thomas: It's Not Me Crying Bertie, I've Got a Baby on Board
  • (BELL RINGING)
  • Toby: Hello Thomas! What that awful noise.
  • Henrietta: It's a baby, silly! Has anyone tried singing a lullaby?
  • Clarabel: That's a splendid idea, Henrietta!
  • Annie: Ahem!
  • Both: Rock-a-bye baby on the treetop, When the wind blows the cradle will rock, When the bough breaks the cradle will fall...
  • (WHISTLE BLOWS)
  • (TOOTING)
  • Clarabel: and down will come baby cradle and all.
  • (BABY STOPS CRYING)
  • Annie: Oh, I always did have a lovely singing voice.
  • Clarabel: I can sing too, you know! (2 CHUCKLES)
  • (TOOTING)
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • Both: Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop, When the wind blows the cradle will rock, When the bough breaks the cradle will fall
  • Grumpy Passenger: Well, Really!
  • Annie and Clarabel: and Down will come baby cradle and all
  • (TOOTING)
  • (BABY STOPS CRYING)
  • Thomas: (LAUGHS) Annie, Clarabel! It isn't your singing that's calming the baby. it's me!
  • Narrator: Every time Thomas had to stop at a station or a signal, the same thing happended.
  • Annie: Oh, why is everyone getting off execpt the lady with the baby?
  • (TOOTING)
  • Annie: She has to get off here!
  • Clarabel: It's the very last station!
  • (TOOTING)
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • Mother: Er.. Excuse Me. Thanks.
  • Clarabel: (SIGHS)
  • (WHISTLES BLOWS)
  • (TOOTING)
  • Narrator: Thomas went to turn "round on the loop, ready for his return to Knapford.
  • Thomas: Phew! This journey back should be a lot more peaceful without that... OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • (TOOTING)
  • Annie: Not the baby again!
  • Clarabel: and it's sill crying!
  • Thomas: I suppose it is very tired like you said before Annie.
  • Annie: Oh! How on earth can it possibly still be tired?
  • (WHISTLE BLOWS)
  • (TOOTING)
  • Narrator: The baby fell asleep again as soon as Thomas left Ffarquhar.
  • Thomas: (GASPS) I Know what to do! Every time I stop, the baby starts crying. So, I won't stop at all!
  • Clarabel: That's a terrible idea, Thomas!
  • Annie: What about the other passengers?
  • Clarabel: and you'll get into trouble with Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Thomas: (SIGHS) I suppose you're right.
  • Annie: (CHUCKLES) Silly you!
  • Clarabel: (CHUCKING) Clever us!
  • Narrator: So Thomas stopped at every station and the baby started crying every time he stopped.
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • (TOOTING)
  • Narrator: By the time, Thomas got back to Knapford, everyone was exhausted.
  • (TOOTING)
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • Annie: Oh! Thank goodness that's over! Off to the sidings for a rest.
  • Clarabel: (SIGHS) A whole glorious house before our next journey!
  • Sir Topham Hatt: (LAUGHING) Oh, hello there! coochy, coochy cool! Oh! Uh-oh.
  • (BABY CONTINUES CRYING)
  • Narrator: But Thomas was watching the mother trying to calm her baby.
  • Thomas: Sir! Sir! Permission to miss my break, please, Sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Oh Whatever For?
  • Thomas: I want to make a special journey without stopping so the baby and it's mother can get some rest!
  • Annie: (GASPS AND STAMMERS) But Thomas. No!
  • Clarabel: What if it doesn't work?
  • Thomas: It did before.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Well I think it's very kind of you. Thomas. Well done. you go ahead.
  • (BABY CRYING)
  • (TOOTING)
  • (BABY STOPS CRYING)
  • Annie: Ooh, Thomas, the baby's falling asleep!
  • (BELL RINGING)
  • Thomas: SHH!
  • (HONKING)
  • Bertie: Hey! Hello, Thomas!
  • Thomas: Shh, Bertie! The baby's asleep.
  • Bertie: Oh!
  • (SNORING)
  • Narrator: and so was his mother.
  • (TOOTING)
  • Narrator: Finally, they were back at Knapford, where someone was waiting for them.
  • Albert: Oh, Thomas, thank you for baby-sitting all morning. That's my wife and son you've been looking after.
  • Thomas: (LAUGHS) Is It?
  • Albert: I didn't know that. I think this is the longest either  of them have slept for days.
  • (YAWNS)
  • Albert: we haven't even named him yet. we've all been so tired!
  • Thomas: I'm not surprised, I never knew babies were so demanding!
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Excelent work today, Thomas, and you, Albert, I think you deserve a week's holiday, so you can help out with your little boy.
  • Albert: Oh, thank you, Sir Topham! Perhaps we should name him in honour of today, do you agree darling?
  • Mother: Oh, Yes we must call him... Thomas. (LAUGHS) Thank you again for all your help.
  • Thomas: My pleasure! I'm so sorry for making you miss your break, Annie and Clarabel, but i think it was worth it, don't you? Annie? Clarabel?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I think you'll find they're fast asleep, Thomas!
  • (BOTH SNORING)
  • (BOTH CHUCKLING)
