  • He was 18 at the time of marrage (she was 36 and pregnant)
  • The "Lost Years" of his life were from the birth of his twins till 7 years after
  • In London, he started writing plays (he moved there around 1588)
  • Emerged as a respected and estabished actor (which was strange for the time) after the "Lost Years"
  • Also, during this time, many of his plays became popular ("King Henry IV", "The Comedy of Errors", and "Titus Andronicus" for example)
  • His troupe was very popular and preformed regularly for Queen Elizabeth herself
  • The Earl of Southampton became his patron and William's works were publicated (Turning point in career)
  • It is believed that he and the Earl had a close friendship, but not proven
  • returned to the theatre in 1594, became a leading member of the "Lord Chamberlain's Men"
  • Preformed for Elizabeth and got 10 pounds
  • Wrote "Romeo and Juliet", "Richard II", "King John", and "Love's Labour's Lost" at this time
  • Moved to St. Helen's Bishopgate in 1596
  • William's last plays were written in 1613 and supposedly retired to Stanford
  • William was buried in the church he attended as a child, Holy Trinity Church

It is largly guessed that Shakespeare was bi-sexual, mostly because over a hundred sonnets were addressed to a man.

  • Only men were allowed to preform in the theater. Women's roles were played by young boys in women's clothing
  • Many of William's plays were preformed here, sometimes infront of Queen Elizabeth I
