- The Farmers as Themselves
Narrator: "In the summer, the high hills of Ponyville are Woody's favorite place. There are flowers and forests, and fields full of sheep, and farmers who wave as Woody chuffs by.
But in the winter, it's very different in the hills. There is rain and wind, and sometimes, there are bad storms.
One rainy day, Woody was delivering mutants toys carrying slate. He saw a farmer up ahead by the path."
Farmer: "There's an emergency!"
Narrator: "He shouted."
Farmer: "A big storm is coming. We have to get the sheep down from the hills. We need the toys to help."
Narrator: "Woody wanted to help. So he puffed quickly away to the depot. He had to tell the other toys that there was an emergency.
When Woody arrived at the depot, his friends, Buzz Lightyear and Rex were there. So was Doc Top. Woody told him about the storm."
Doc Top: "First,"
Narrator: "Said Doc Top."
Narrator: "You must collect wagons, and take them to the top of the hill. Then pick up the sheep and bring them safely down the hill to the farmers."
Buzz Lightyear and Rex: "Yes, sir."
Narrator: "Peeped Buzz and Rex. They couldn't wait to get started. As Woody was being uncoupled from the mutant toys, there was a flash of lightning and a roar of thunder. Woody was scared of the thunder and lightning, but he didn't want to tell his friends. He didn't want to look silly. Buzz and Rex blew their whistles bravely as they puffed off to collect their wagons. Woody tooted his whistle as hard as he could, but it didn't sound very brave at all.
The three little toys arrived at the bottom of the hill with their wagons. Then there was an even louder roar of thunder. Woody's feet wobbled. He was very frightened."
Buzz Lightyear: "Here I go!"
Narrator: "Puffed Buzz, and he bravely chuffed up the hill."
Rex: "I'm coming too!"
Narrator: "Tooted Rex, and he puffed off bravely after his friend. Woody watched his friends disappear into the storm. He didn't feel as brave as the other toys."
Woody: "I'm too scared to go up the hill with them."
Narrator: "Woody puffed quietly. And with a sad puff of steam, Woody reversed down a siding and hid.
Woody waited. He hoped no one would see he wasn't helping.
At last, Buzz and Rex came down the hill. Their wagons were full of sheep. Woody watched the farmers unload the sheep. Then Rex and Buzz puffed back up the hill into the storm. They were being very brave. Woody felt bad. He wanted to help, but he was too scared.
Rex and Buzz Lightyear worked very hard. They puffed up and down the hill, bringing sheep safely to the farmers.
Then there was trouble. Rex and Buzz had puffed up and down so many times, they both ran out of strength."
Buzz Lightyear: "Oh, no!"
Narrator: "Wheeshed Buzz sadly."
Buzz Lightyear: "There are still more sheep up on the hill."
Rex: "What are we going to do?"
Narrator: "Chuffed Rex. Woody looked at his two friends. They were very tired and very sad. Then he looked at the farmers. They were worried about the sheep."
Woody: "If a toy like me is frightened of thunder, the little sheep must be very scared."
Narrator: "Woody chuffed to himself."
Woody: "I wanted to help the sheep, I wanted to help the farmers, and I wanted to help my friends, but I haven't helped any of them. I've let them all down."
Narrator: "He felt terrible. Woody puffed slowly out of his hiding place. Buzz and Rex were pleased to see him."
Rex: "Did you collect lots of sheep?"
Narrator: "Rex asked."
Buzz Lightyear: "We didn't see you."
Narrator: "Puffed Buzz. Wood sadly told them what had happened."
Woody: "I was too scared of the thunder and lightning to go up the hill with you."
Narrator: "He wheeshed."
Woody: "So I hid, and I watched you working. Because of me, there are still sheep on the hill. So now I'm going up to collect them."
Narrator: "He chuffed. There was another flash of lightning and a roar of thunder, but Woody didn't notice. He pumped his legs and puffed off bravely up the hill.
The lightning flashed around Woody, and the thunder roared, but Woody wasn't scared. All he thought about was collecting the sheep and bringing them safely down the hill.
Woody arrived at the top of the hill. The farmer was waiting. He was very pleased to see Woody. The sheep were quickly loaded into the wagons. And Woody set off down the hill. It was very hard work, but Woody didn't give up. He chuffed up and down the hill until he had collected all the sheep. Woody felt very happy."
Woody: "I'm braver than I thought."
Narrator: "He wheeshed. And he puffed proudly down the hill for the last time.
Buzz and Rex were waiting for Woody at the bottom of the hill."
Buzz Lightyear and Rex: "Well done!"
Narrator: "They tooted. They were very happy to see him and proud of their friend."
Woody: "Three cheers for Woody!"
Narrator: "The farmers cheered. Woody smiled."
Woody: "I didn't think I could do it, but I could."
Narrator: "The lightning still flashed and the thunder still roared, but Woody was the happiest toy on Ponyville."
