Mr Potato Head and the Trouble with Trees

  1. Woody the Cowboy had been working in the coal yards all day. The cowboy was covered in coal dust.
  2. (Sorry, we can't clean Woody because there isn't time)
  3. Woody: Bother! A bath would make me feel much better. The others are sure to say i look silly.
  4. But the toys were too busy arguing to notice Woody. Mr Potato Head was talking loudest of all.
  5. Mr Potato Head: I deserve a new coat of paint. Andy says i'm the pride of the line and...
  6. Rex: Rubbish! We're all the pride of the line.
  7. Buzz Lightyear: It's been like this all day, Mr Potato Head is getting a new coat of paint and won't stop boasting about it.
  8. Woody: Why, Mr Potato Head! I'm the one who needs a new coat. Look at me.
  9. Mr Potato Head: I rather not. You're not a pleasant sight and wouldn't understand that needs of a really important vegetable.
  10. Next morning as Mr Potato Head's parts was being repainted, Rex had an accident.
  11. (Crash)
  12. Mr Potato Head: If you can't push trucks properly, Rex, why not talk to a tree instead. You know how much you like the forest.
  13. Rex: As a matter of fact, bossy boiler, Andy is inspecting the island for trees that have fallen too close to the line. He's worried that might cause trouble.
  14. Mr Potato Head: Pah! If i came upon a tree i just push it aside.
  15. Rex: Really!?
  16. Soon, Mr Potato Head was showing off his paintwork.
  17. Mr Potato Head: Make way for an important vegetable.
  18. Buzz Lightyear: You wouldn't feel important if one of those trees crashed on you. You feel hurt.
  19. Mr Potato Head: Rubbish! It wouldn't dare!
  20. Mike: You should be careful, Mr Potato Head. Trees can be just as powerful as vegetables.
  21. Mr Potato Head: Pah! Now excuse me, Andy needs me to pull the express.
  22. Andy: You must go to the yards and collect an important goods train Mr Potato Head. It's heavy so be careful.
  23. Mr Potato Head: But, sir, i've just been repainted. Can't Woody and Buzz do it? They're dirty and like working with trucks
  24. Andy: Fruits and vegetables don't argue.
  25. So Mr. Potato Head didn't. By the time he arrived at the yards, the weather was changed for the worse.
  26. Freight Car: Your color's nice, Mr Potato Head. Pity about your eyes though.
  27. Mr Potato Head ignored them and set off. Soon they came to a hill in Afaon Garw and An old tree close to the stream was being blown by the strong winds and the rain had weakened the slope. All of a sudden, the tree moved.
  28. (Splash)
  29. Mr Potato Head: Oh help! Go away!
  30. But of course, the tree couldn't. Mr Potato Head tried to reverse away from the tree but his train was too heavy. Then he heard a whistle.
  31. Mr Potato Head: It's Woody.
  32. Mr Potato Head felt embarrased and worried that Woody would laugh at him, but Woody didn't. He knew it was no time for teasing.
  33. Woody: I'm ready!
  34. Mr Potato Head: So am i. As ready as i'll ever be.
  35. They were just in time.
  36. (The tree lands on the stream with a loud splash!)
  37. (Later...)
  38. Mr Potato Head: Buzz and Mike were so right to warn me. Thank you for rescuing me, Woody.
  39. Woody: Oh, that's all right. We toys have to pull together whatever the weather.
  40. Just then, Alan a Dale bustled in.
  41. Alan a Dale: Andy thinks you're both brave toys. Woody, you're going to have a new coat of paint, and Mr Potato Head, Andy says that tomorrow you'll pull the special express.
  42. Everyone was very happy.

Something in the Air

One day, Woody was at Brighton. An early morning catch of fish were being loaded into his trucks. The work took a long time, the fishermen were using old equipment and Woody was worried.

Woody: I'm going to be late for Rex. He won't like this. Please hurry up and...

Woody was rudely interrupted.

(The crate containing fish inside falls on top of Woody)

Woody: Phew! What a pong!

He was glad when they were speeding along the beautiful coastal run. Then, as they approach the lighthouse he saw a man waving a red flag.

Woody: What's the matter now?

Chris Kirby: High tides are damaging the track. I've marked the spot.

Etch: We'll go and inspect.

Etch: It would be dangerous for heavy toys like Rex. But for Woody, it's safe enough.

The guard left a red oil lamp by the damaged track to warn toys.

Guard: When we get to the docks, i'll tell them to close the line.

Rex was waiting anxiously for Woody's trucks.

Rex: Pah! You're late and that smell is making me ill!

Woody: I can't help it, It's the fish and there's danger on the rails. That's why we're late.

Rex: Ha! You're the only danger on the rails, Woody. Now stop wasting time and get my trucks hitched to my train.

Matt and Linda (from Hollow Man) were in the yard master's office when they heard Rex's whistle. There he was, steaming out of the station with his long heavy train called The Flying Kipper.

Matt: What rude is Rex taking tonight?

Yard Master: The coastal run. It's the quickest.

Matt: But i told you! That's dangerous for a big dinosaur like Rex!

The yard master quickly phoned the signalman. Rex roared past the signalbox.

Rex: I'll soon make up for lost time.

The signalman answered the telephone, but he couldn't hear the warning. By the time he did, Rex was far away in a cloud of steam. But when Rex reached the coastal track, his hopes for a fast run were dashed. Fog floated everywhere.

Rex: I can't see!

Nor could his driver. When he could, it was too late.

(Rex falls down into the deep water)

As soon as the tide was high enough, Rex was craned out of the water.

Andy: Toys don't swim, Rex. You were meant to deliver fish not swim with them. you should know that by now.

Rex: Yes, sir. I'm sorry, sir.

When Rex arrived at the docks, Porter looked down on him disdainfully.

Porter: My, my, Rex. I expect you'll have some fishy tales to tell. But take my advice, have a long hosedown first.

Rex: Pah!

But there was worse to come.

Boy 1: Look! They've caught all this fish and a green whale too.

Boy 2: It's not a whale, it's a monster.

Rex was most upset. Woody now felt sorry for Rex.

Woody: Come on. Your driver says it's time for a nice washdown. Then you'll feel much better.

(after Rex had washed and scrubbed)

Rex: I'm sorry i was rude to you, Woody.

Woody: That's all right. But can you smell something?

Rex: W-W-What?

Woody: Fresh air.

Rex: Oh yes.

Woody and the Missing Christmas Tree

  • It was two days before christmas. Many children were expected in the United States. All the toys were busy with the final preparations. Andy wanted this year's carol party to be an extra special celebration. Andy was now waiting impatiently for Woody.
  • Andy: Quickly now, our christmas tree has arrived just in time. I want you to fetch it, Woody. Hamm can look after Mia and Tia until you get back.
  • Woody: Will we be able to sing carols too?
  • Andy: We'll see.
  • Woody: It would be nice to sing carols again.
  • Woody collected the tree safely but large snowdrifts lay ahead.
  • Woody: I musn't be late, Andy is relying on me.
  • Whistling bravely, Woody tried to move. But he couldn't. There was worse to come. Woody was snowed under. Meanwhile the other toys waited and waited. They were grumbling about Woody for being late.
  • Andy: Silence! Woody left the works safely, but snow had brought the telephone lines down. We must assume he is stranded.
  • The toys now felt sorry for Woody and cold but confident the twins set off to the rescue. Suddenly, they came to a drift that was deeper than the rest.
  • Woody: Help!
  • Frank 1: Hush! I can hear something.
  • Frank 2: Probally the wind.
  • Woody: Help!
  • Frank 1: No listen.
  • Woody: Over here!
  • Frank 2: Oh, it's Woody. Come on the poor wee cowboy must be frozen to the frames in there.
  • When the workmen arrived, it took some time to decide how to dig away the drifts of snow. At last, Woody and the precious christmas tree were free from the snowdrift. Then they set off once more to finish their long journey. Andy greeted them warmly.
  • Andy: As a reward for all your hard work, you may go and enjoy the carols. Be quick now.
  • At Piccadilly Circus, all was soon ready.
  • Andy: One, two, three!
  • Suddenly like magic the street was flooded with lights.
  • Andy: Ladies and gentlemen and children, i give you three cheers for Woody the Cowboy and all his friends who had made this ocasion possible.
  • Then there was a familiar whirring sound. Buzz and Bo Peep smiled, they knew who it was. With landing lights shining brightly, British International G-BCEB touched down gently in the snow. Bringing the greatest surprise of all, Santa Claus. Everyone cheered and the party began.
  • Woody: It's no fun getting stuck in the snow. But it was worth it for this party. Happy holidays, Buzz Happy holidays, everyone.
